Vietnam chairs 15th ASOSAI Assembly opening ceremony
VOV.VN - Three years on since assuming the role as ASOSAI Chair, the State Audit of Vietnam has co-ordinated with SAI members to promote the spirit of the 14th ASOSAI Assembly to carry out the Hanoi Declaration on environment auditing for sustainable development.
This statement was made by Tran Sy Thanh, the Vietnamese Auditor General and Chair of the Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (ASOSAI) for 2018 to 2021, on September 7 while chairing the online opening ceremony of the 15th ASOSAI Assembly for the 2021 to 2024 tenure.
As part of his opening speech, Thanh said amid the COVID-19 pandemic seriously impacting the economies and societies of most Asian countries, the ASOSAI has witnessed solidarity among all regional supreme audit institutions. Indeed, they have all come together to overcome difficulties through their efforts, prompt initiatives, and solutions to respond to the pandemic.
Chanathap Indamra, Thailand's State Auditor General, said the pandemic has affected all aspects of life, including the audit sector. Therefore, the 15th ASOSAI Assembly, as well as the 56th and 57th meetings of the ASOSAI Governing Board and the ASOSAI Symposium, must be organised via videoconference.
Indeed, the ASOSAI Assembly would not have been successful without the support of both Vietnam and China amidst continued complicated developments relating to the COVID-19 pandemic, he added.
Aleksei Kudrin, chair of the International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions (INTOSAI), said that the 15th ASOSAI Assembly being held virtually demonstrates the flexibility of the audit community towards implementing a new and more effective and professional working method in the future.
The Bangkok Declaration that was adopted at this assembly will be the key document in order to orient the main activities of the ASOSAI moving forward.
He also thanked the State Audit Office of Vietnam for its efforts aimed at addressing many important issues, thereby helping to promote the ASOSAI’s reputation in Asia.
Following the opening ceremony, the 15th ASOSAI Assembly held its first and second plenary sessions, along with the eighth Symposium and the 57th Governing Board Meeting.
The sessions adopted a number of documents on the implementation of ASOSAI’s strategic plan for 2016-2021, a draft strategic plan of ASOSAI for 2022-2027, reports of working groups, and a report on the implementation of the Hanoi Declaration.
The report on the implementation of the Hanoi Declaration said ASOSAI has focused on areas that bring great benefits to the people, including health care and the provision of welfare service, sustainable development of public education, sustainable food security, sustainable national finance administration, and sustainable management of population policy.
The assembly also approved the Bangkok Declaration, the key document to orient the main activities of the ASOSAI in the time ahead, in the second plenary session.
The same day, the 15th ASOSAI Assembly passed the establishment of a Working Group on Sustainable Development Goals (ASOSAI WGSDG) and another on Crisis Management Audit.
