Vietnam, Cambodia upbeat about flourishing relations

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man and Cambodian Prime Minister Samdech Hun Manet, during their meeting held on November 22 in Phnom Penh, showed their elation to see that bilateral relations have been constantly strengthened.

The meeting was part of the Vietnamese NA leader’s official visit to Cambodia where he attends the 12th General Assembly of the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) and the 11th Plenary Session of International Parliament for Tolerance and Peace (IPTP).

PM Hun Manet emphasized that the visit of the Vietnamese delegation is a testament to both sides' determination to develop sound neighborliness, and good friendship, and work together on national construction and development.

On this occasion, through NA Chairman Tran Thanh Man, PM Hun Manet respectfully sent his regards to Party General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, other leaders as well as all Vietnamese people.

The top Vietnamese legislator  highlighted PM Hun Manet's official visit to Vietnam in December 2023 as a continued contribution to promoting economic, trade, investment, science and technology cooperation between the two countries. He thanked Cambodia for its assistance and support to Vietnam in overcoming the damage caused by storm No. 3 (Yagi) last September.

He also informed his host about the results of the very successful talks with President of the Cambodian NA Samdech Khuon Sudary, saying that the two NA leaders co-chaired the inauguration ceremony of the Cambodian NA's administrative building in Phnom Penh which symbolizes the solidarity and traditional friendship between Vietnam and Cambodia.

Emphasizing the huge potential between the two countries, Man suggested that the two countries continue to strengthen cooperation in a multitude of fields, especially in economics and trade, and asked the Cambodian side to continue paying attention and creating favorable conditions for Vietnamese enterprises to invest in Cambodia.

The Vietnamese NA stays ready to coordinate with Cambodia to urge ministries, sectors, localities and enterprises to actively and effectively implement signed treaties, agreements, coordinate to well organize the 21st session of the Joint Committee on Economic, Cultural, Scientific and Technical Cooperation, and the 13th Conference on Cooperation and Development of Vietnam - Cambodia Border Provinces in Cambodia at a suitable time, Man told his host.

The top Vietnamese legislator asked both sides continue to accelerate the demarcation of the remaining 16% to build a border of peace, friendship, cooperation and long-term development between the two countries.

The two sides need to continue to boost closer coordination and support each other at multilateral forums; closely coordinate at the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) and the United Nations (UN), maintain and promote ASEAN consensus, including on the East Sea issue; and fight against distorted and destructive arguments against Vietnam-Cambodia relations, Man went on to say.

Host and guest informed each other about the socio-economic situation in each country and showed their delight to see that bilateral relations have been continuously promoted, with momentum of development being maintained across multiple areas.

They agreed that both sides need to strengthen education for the younger generation to understand the sacrifices and contributions of previous generations in the past struggles for national liberation of the two countries, thereby contributing to further consolidating and developing the traditional friendly neighborliness and fruitful cooperation between Vietnam and Cambodia.

The host leader hailed the tremendous achievements Vietnam has recorded under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, saying that Vietnam's high growth rate is an important factor promoting economic growth in the region.

The Cambodian Government always cares about and fosters the good neighborly friendship between the two countries, he stressed, adding that the two governments need to coordinate closely and promptly inform each other on issues in order to deal with challenges that threaten the development of each country; and support the cooperative relationship between the two legislative bodies for the benefit of the people.

He proposed further stepping up cooperation across a variety of fields between the three countries of Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia in a bid to boost economic development, especially through tourism and trade connections.

Hun Manet praised Vietnam's support for his nation's development; emphasizing that the development of Vietnam and Cambodia will contribute to the stability and development of the three countries as well as ASEAN and the wider world.
