Vietnam, Cambodia forge ahead with long-term cooperation

VOV.VN - Vietnam and Cambodia have consented to promote the “good neighbourliness, traditional friendship and comprehensive, sustainable and long-term cooperation” for mutual benefit.

This agreement was reached at a June 15 meeting between President Tran Dai Quang and Cambodian King Norodom Sihamoni in Phnom Penh as part of the Vietnamese State leader’s two-day State visit to Cambodia.

President Quang congratulated the Cambodian people on the major achievements they have obtained over the recent past while hailing the King’s role in national reconciliation and development.

"Vietnam always treasures the good sentiments and valuable support of King Norodom Sihamoni, late King Norodom Sihanouk and the Cambodian people towards Vietnam during its past struggles for national independence and the present cause of national construction and development," Quang told his host.

Quang suggested King Norodom Sihamoni continue helping Vietnamese in Cambodia stabilise their lives and make greater contributions to the development of the host country and bilateral ties.

He also affirmed Vietnam's desire to work hand in hand with Cambodia to strengthen the friendship and cooperation between the two countries, for the sake of the two countries’ people and for peace, stability and development in the region and the world as a whole.

The two leaders concurred to closely coordinate in launching activities marking the 50 th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties (June 24, 1967).

Greater attention will be given to educating young people about the solidarity and traditional friendship between the nations, while increasing the exchange of all-level delegations, especially between their border localities and citizen, they said.

The Vietnamese State leader invited King Norodom Sihamoni and Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk to visit Vietnam at an appropriate time and the invitation was accepted with pleasure.

The Cambodian King highlighted the Vietnamese President’s visit as a milestone aiming to deepen the friendship and comprehensive cooperation and thanked the Vietnamese Party, State, Government and people for their great support to Cambodia, especially their contributions to national reconciliation in the country.

He said his nation will continue to reinforce the solidarity, friendship and cooperation with Vietnam and expressed his hope that Vietnam will provide more support for Cambodia's development.
