Vietnam calls for stronger cooperation to enhance women’s role in economic life
Vietnam has voiced its commitment to promoting women’s empowerment and strengthening international cooperation to enhance women’s role in economic life, especially by connecting women working in science, innovation, and business to help them become pioneers in emerging fields.

Nguyen Thi Tuyen, Chairwoman of the Vietnam Women’s Union, delivered the message at the Global Leaders’ Meeting on Women held in Beijing, China, from October 13-14, marking the 30th anniversary of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action on Gender Equality (1995).
In her address, Tuyen underlined Vietnam’s achievements in advancing gender equality and empowering women. She said the country has actively implemented commitments under the Beijing Declaration and relevant international human rights conventions, achieving positive results such as improvements in gender equality indicators. Women now account for 44% of researchers, nearly 40% of those working in STEM fields, 30% of National Assembly deputies, and over 28% of business owners.
Vietnam is also pursuing and enforcing policies that promote women’s full participation in economic, political, and social life, with national strategies on science and technology, enterprise development, education, and health giving high priority to women.
Tuyen highlighted Vietnam’s active role in global gender equality efforts, noting that female Vietnamese officers make up 14.4% of the country’s personnel in United Nations peacekeeping missions, higher than the global average. Vietnam has also contributed to numerous UN and ASEAN initiatives promoting gender equality and women’s advancement.
Emphasising that peace and stability are vital conditions for women’s progress, Tuyen called on nations to strengthen dialogue and cooperation to promote mutual understanding and gender equality in line with shared global objectives. This, she said, would help women play a greater role in ensuring peace, stability, and sustainable development.
She reaffirmed Vietnam’s belief that with unity and determination, the international community will continue to advance the vision of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, towards building a peaceful, sustainable world where all women and girls are respected, protected, and empowered to enable comprehensive development.
