Party leader To Lam encourages women to strengthen role in society

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasised the pivotal role of the Vietnam Women’s Union in implementing key tasks aimed at achieving gender equality, promoting women’s engagement in families and society, and contributing to the country’s sustainable development.

Speaking at a ceremony in Hanoi on October 2 marking the Union’s 95th anniversary, the General Secretary highly praised the organisation’s remarkable journey of growth and dedication. From revolutionary movements during the resistance wars such as the “Long-Haired Army” and “Three Responsibilities,” to modern initiatives like “Mother Sponsorship” and “Accompanying Women in Border Areas,” the Union has always been a steadfast pillar for Vietnamese women, serving not only as the backbone of families but also in various economic, social, and cultural fields.

He noted that although women have played a crucial role in entrepreneurship, innovation, and participation in key economic sectors such as textiles, footwear, electronics, and tourism, their sacred duties as mothers, wives, and daughters remain the fundamental ethical foundation and “the first school” of character. Therefore, the Union must continue to promote this responsibility while expanding practical and effective emulation movements that are measurable and replicable.

He proposed major directions for the Union to study and implement, with a special focus on building the new-era Vietnamese woman embodying patriotism, autonomy, courage, compassion, intelligence, creativity, responsibility, digital skills, and environmental awareness.

Regarding technology and digital transformation, the General Secretary requested strengthening digital skills training for members, developing user-friendly digital applications, supporting women in entrepreneurship and online business, and collaborating to create a safe cyberspace for women and children.

In the economic sphere, the Union was tasked with promoting sustainable livelihoods, supporting women-led cooperatives, linking projects with OCOP-certified products, and connecting preferential credit and technology transfer to improve product quality.

The Party leader also urged the Union to enhance measures to protect women and children against gender-based violence, human trafficking, and high-tech crimes, while boosting the detection, training, and deployment of female cadres and increasing the proportion of women in leadership positions at all levels, especially grassroots-level.

A major highlight of the General Secretary’s directives is the call for innovation in the Union’s operations, based on data and digital management, shifting from broad support to targeted and effective solutions to ensure that every activity of the Union brings practical value to women and families.

On this occasion, the General Secretary launched a new emulation campaign themed “Vietnamese Women: Aspiration – Intelligence – Compassion – Creativity – Sustainability – Happiness,” requiring every chapter of the Union, sector, and locality to register clear targets and specific emulation projects with rigorous social supervision mechanisms, making emulation a sustainable driving force for the women’s movement and national development.

On behalf of the Party and State, Party General Secretary To Lam presented the Labour Order, First Class, to the Vietnam Women’s Union in recognition of its contributions to national development.

The Presidium of the Central Committee of the Vietnam Women’s Union also awarded Certificates of Merit to 81 outstanding collectives and 255 exemplary individuals across various fields.
