Vietnam calls for international community’s support for Palestine
VOV.VN - The nation has called on the international community to support the cause of Palestine independence at the November 30 plenary session of the UN General Assembly (UN) to discuss and vote on four resolutions relating to the issue.
Representatives of more than 40 countries, including Vietnam, expressed their concern about recent tense developments occurring between Israel and Palestine, which has led to many civilian casualties, especially on the Palestinian side.
Many delegates emphasized that during the past 75 years after the UN General Assembly adopted the first resolution on the issue, the goal of establishing an independent Palestinian State has not yet been achieved, despite great international support.
The majority of the delegates therefore affirmed that the two-state solution is the only way to achieve sustainable peace between both sides.
The countries went on to underline the need for the international community to step up efforts to make this goal a reality in order to comprehensively, fairly, and permanently resolve the longest conflict in modern history.
In his speech, Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, reiterated the content of President Nguyen Xuan Phuc's message sent to the State and people of Palestine on November 29 on the occasion of the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian people. The Vietnamese diplomat affirmed the Vietnamese State and people’s strong support for the Palestinian people's righteous struggle for independence.
Ambassador Giang expressed the Vietnamese side’s concern about the recent increase in violence breaking out in the West Bank, with the number of casualties this year already at the highest level in decades, indicating instability and the risk of escalation of the conflict on a large scale that could impact the entire region.
The Vietnamese diplomat affirmed the nation’s consistent stance that the Palestinian issue must be resolved on the basis of international law and relevant UN resolutions. This should ensure the legitimate interests of relevant parties, especially the inalienable rights of Palestinians, including the right to establish an independent and sovereign Palestinian State with East Jerusalem as its capital, and peacefully coexisting alongside the State of Israel with secure and internationally recognised boundaries based on the pre-1967 borders.
In order to turn that vision into reality, Ambassador Giang stressed the necessary of creating a favourable environment for negotiations and to avoid any actions that further complicates the situation. This includes the use of force, activities that expand the Jewish settlement in the West Bank, destroy property, and expelling Palestinians from their homes.
Vietnam affirms its support for all initiatives of the international community that seek to promote the peace process and find a lasting solution to the Palestinian issue.
While there is no ultimate solution, Vietnam backs and calls on international partners to increase humanitarian assistance to the Palestinian people.
