Vietnam boosts defence links with Egypt
VOV.VN - Deputy Minister of National Defence Sen. Lt. Gen. Hoang Xuan Chien hosted a reception on July 14 in Hanoi for newly-accredited Egyptian Ambassador to Vietnam Amal Abdel Kader Elmorsi.
Upon welcoming the Egyptian diplomat, Deputy Minister Chien expressed his hope that she will pay attention to and support the maintenance and development of defence co-operation between both sides. This will be done for the best interests of each country, and for the cause of peace, stability, co-operation and development in both regions and for the wider world.
Emphasising that Egypt is one of the country’s active partners in Africa and bilateral defence co-operation still holds great potential for development, Deputy Minister Chien suggested that both sides step up delegation exchanges. This should be done whilst setting up a mechanism to share information on the political security and socio-economic situation, as well as customs and practices at UN peacekeeping missions in Africa. Other efforts include discussing the possibility of collaboration in addressing post-war bomb and mine consequences.
Ambassador Salama underscored the importance of defence co-operation in the two countries’ relations, thereby affirming that her country wants to boost collaboration with Vietnam in this field.
She went on to suggest the two countries move to accelerate the establishment of a joint committee on defence co-operation, share experience in cybersecurity, and collaborate in the defence industry, as well as the training of Vietnamese and Arab languages for the two countries’ military officers.
