Vietnam boosts co-operation with Germany’s Cottbus city

VOV.VN - A delegation from the Vietnam Embassy in Germany led by Ambassador Vu Quang Minh and the Vietnamese Association in Cottbus city of Brandenburg state met with Mayor Tobias Schick on June 1 to discuss ties between Vietnam and the city.

As part of his address, the Ambassador outlined that the relationship between the two nations is growing across all fields, especially after the visit to Vietnam last November made by German Chancellor Olaf Scholz. That serves as a good premise for the two countries, as well as between Cottbus and Vietnamese localities, to continue promoting relations.

Ambassador Minh said that he expects Cottbus to consider twinning with a Vietnamese city, thereby enhancing ties and people-to-people exchanges. In addition, both sides can also strive to promote linkages in the field of higher education and vocational training, including nursing.

In response, Mayor Schick applauded the integration and contribution made by the Vietnamese community in Cottbus city which boosts the city's diversity and prosperity, going on to express his respect for the hard-working Vietnamese community.

Mayor Schick expressed his desire to step up co-operation between Cottbus and Vietnam, especially in the field of vocational training. He informed the guest that over 80 nurses are being trained and working in Cottbus, whilst he also highly valued the idea of establishing a twinning relationship between Cottbus and a city in Vietnam.

The same day saw Ambassador Minh and his wife Nguyen Minh Hanh attend a ceremony to welcome an elephant named "Don Chung" to the city’s zoo. The elephant is a gift by Vietnam for Germany and has been moved from Leipzig Zoo to Cottbus city.
