Vietnam backs UN chief's Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals

VOV.VN - Vietnam strongly supports the operational purposes of the panel to develop a voluntary code of conduct on essential minerals for energy transition and hopes that countries will further contribute and support the panel's activities moving forward.

This affirmation was made by Ambassador Dang Hoang Giang, permanent representative of Vietnam to the UN, at a meeting held on July 12 to review activities of the UN Secretary General's Panel on Critical Energy Transition Minerals.

Representatives of UN member states welcomed the panel for informing them about its activities and expressed their priorities in essential mineral exploitation and energy transition.

They also asked that the panel continue to regularly inform member countries about its activities.

In his speech, Ambassador Giang hailed the efforts of the two co-chairs and the Secretariat in managing the activities of the panel, emphasizing that as a member, Vietnam has actively contributed to the panel’s discussions and looks forward to specific results over the next few months.

The nation is in the process of implementing the Just Energy Transition Partnership Agreement, Ambassador Giang said, adding that the panel's activities can support climate change response efforts of Vietnam as a developing country in the transition.
