US considered a strategically important partner in bilateral ties

VOV.VN - Vietnam always regards the United States as a partner of strategic importance in bilateral relations, Nguyen Trong Nghia, Politburo member, secretary of the Party Central Committee (PCC), and chairman of the PCC's Commission for Information and Education, said at a reception on August 7 in Hanoi for US Ambassador to Vietnam Marc Knapper.

At the reception, Nguyen Trong Nghia expressed his gratitude to President Joe Biden; Secretary of State Antony Blinken; the Ambassador; officials of the US Embassy and Consulate General in Vietnam; as well as US agencies, organisations, and people for sending their deep condolences on the passing of late Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.

This is not only of great encouragement, but also a testament to the increasingly developing Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries.

Nghia reviewed the achievements recorded in bilateral co-operation across multiple fields, especially since the historic visit of late General Secretary Trong to the US in July, 2015, and President Biden's visit to Vietnam in September, 2023.

Emphasiszing several achievements recorded through co-operation in trade - investment, culture, education - training, people-to-people exchanges such as collaboration in science, technology and innovation, which is considered a breakthrough in joint relations, Nghia suggested that the US side continue to support the nation in training high-quality human resources in semiconductors. This is along with offering favourable conditions for co-operation between universities, technology institutes, and commercial organisations in the two countries, including the Vietnam National Innovation Center.

Affirming that the US is always considered to be a partner of strategic importance and that diplomatic ties have entered a new, positive, and promising chapter,  Nghia outlined his hopes that the Ambassador and the US Embassy in Vietnam will continue to serve as a bridge to promote relations through Party channels as a contribution to deepening mutual understanding and trust.

This will thereby develop the relationship between the two countries in a more stable, substantive, and profound manner on the basis of the agreed principles of respecting each other's independence, sovereignty, territorial integrity, and political regime.

Ambassador Knapper stated that agencies, ministries, and sectors of the two countries are closely co-ordinating to realise the Joint Statement of the two countries' senior leaders upgrading the relationship to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership, as well as to concretize the plan for carrying out the Statement.

Moving forward, it is hoped that the two sides will launch a broad array of activities to deepen the achieved results and continue to promote areas with plenty of room for co-operation.

The two sides agreed that 2025 is a year of great significance as it marks the 50th anniversary of Vietnamese national reunification and the 30th anniversary of Vietnam-US normalization of relations. It is therefore an opportunity for both nations to jointly recognise the great strides made, from the depth of history to the present and towards the future.

The two sides affirmed that the sound relationship between the two countries stems from the legitimate aspirations of both nations’ people, with this realisation of the vision, goals, and efforts of their leaders, both historically and in the present.

The Vietnam - US relationship will be a driving force for prosperity and security in one of the most important regions in the world, contributing to peace, stability, co-operation, and sustainable development.
