US backs a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam
VOV.VN - President Joe Biden has reaffirmed that the US places importance on its relations with Vietnam and supports a strong, independent, self-reliant and prosperous Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh had a meeting on September 11 at Hanoi-based Government Headquarters with US President Joe Biden, who is on a state visit to Vietnam at the invitation of Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong.
The Vietnamese Government chief welcomed the historic visit to Vietnam by President Joe Biden and his high-ranking delegation and thanked the President for giving his very special affection for Vietnam in different positions and playing a very important role with Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong in strengthening Vietnam – US relations to the comprehensive strategic partnership as they are today.
On behalf of Party and State leaders and people of Vietnam, PM Chinh shared with the President about the pain and loss of the American people in the terrorist attack on September 11, 2001.
Vietnam's stance is to combat terrorism in any form, Chinh told his guest, adding that international cooperation to fight terrorism is very important, especially cooperation with the US.
President Joe Biden expressed his pleasure to meet PM Pham Minh Chinh again, and thanked Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong alongside other leaders and people of Vietnam for their the respectful and warm welcome given to him and his entourage.
To realize the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, the Vietnamese Government leader suggested the two sides prioritize the following areas such as boosting relations across all channels, enhancing economic cooperation - trade and investment, and making breakthroughs in science and technology cooperation, innovation, and education and training.
This is in addition to promoting climate change response, green growth, renewable energy development, and defence – security, offering mutual support at multilateral forums, and stepping up cooperation in the Mekong sub-region and ASEAN's stance, principles, and central role in the East Sea issue, Chinh said.
On this occasion, he also thanked and asked Biden to continue to pay attention to and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living in the US.
After the meeting, the two leaders attended the Vietnam-US Innovation & Investment Summit.
