UK and Vietnam bolster parliamentary links
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to the UK Do Minh Hung underscored the priority given to ramping up inter-parliamentary co-operation between the nation and the UK in the time ahead during a working session with Speaker of the UK House of Commons Lindsay Hoyle in London on October 22.
These ties include delegation exchanges at all levels, law building, experience sharing, mutual support at international forums, co-ordination in addressing regional and global issues, and people-to-people exchanges.
The Vietnamese diplomat used the occasion to applaud the donations made by the UK Parliament, Government, and people to Vietnam over recent times, expressing hope that the two nations will maintain close collaboration in a variety of fields to consolidate and deepen their strategic partnership.
The diplomat conveyed an invitation sent from National Assembly (NA) Chairman Tran Thanh Man to Hoyle to visit Vietnam in 2025. The latter accepted the invitation and said that he will arrange the trip soon and would like to host NA Chairman Man and NA delegations in the UK.
Hoyle hailed Vietnamese achievements in foreign affairs, socio-economics, and culture in recent times, expressing his confidence in the country’s increasingly important role in fostering economic development and a peaceful, prosperous environment in the region.
He also showed a keen desire for both sides to ramp up ties in areas such as trade, green finance, energy transition, innovation research, manufacturing, and tourism.
During the course of the visit, the Vietnamese Ambassador also held a working session Deputy Speaker of the House of Commons Judith Cummins, as well as MPs Mark Hendrick and Mark Garnier, during which Ambassador Hung suggested that MPs continue supporting the enhancement of Vietnam-UK relations in various spheres. Areas to focus on include economics, finance, trade, energy, education, national defence and security, and people-to-people exchanges.
He voiced his hope that the UK Parliament will soon move to establish the All-Party Parliamentary Group for Vietnam (APPG Vietnam) to augment bilateral linkages more effectively.
The hosts said they are actively advocating for the establishment of the APPG Vietnam and are willing to shoulder key positions in the group.
