Top Vietnamese legislator arrives in Vientiane for the CLV Summit and Laos visit

VOV.VN - National Assembly (NA) Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue is leading a high-ranking Vietnamese NA Delegation to attend the first Cambodia-Laos-Vietnam (CLV) Parliamentary Summit, with a view to strengthening and consolidating the friendly relations, close solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation between both sides.

Politburo member and NA Chairman Hue, along with his high-ranking delegation, arrived in Vientiane on December 4 to mark the beginning of a working visit to Laos and attending the first CLV Parliamentary Summit from December 4 to December 7 at the invitation of Laos NA Chairman Saysomphone Phomvihane.

Those welcoming NA Chairman Hue and his delegation at Wattay International Airport included Laos NA Vice Chairman Sounthone Xayachak, Sanya Praseuth, chairman of the Laos NA's Foreign Affairs Committee, and representatives of a number of committees and the Laos NA Secretariat. They were joined by Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Ba Hung, embassy officials, and Vietnamese community representatives in the host nation.

During the working visit to Laos, the Vietnamese NA leader is set to have talks and meetings with senior leaders of the Laos Party, State, and NA in order to discuss directions and measures aimed at strengthening ties between the two countries moving forward.

NA Chairman Hue is scheduled to attend a number of foreign affairs, economic, and cultural activities, as well as meeting Laotian alumni and students who once studied in Vietnam, business community representatives, Vietnamese people in Laos, as well as joining some other important activities.

After joining activities as part of his Laos visit, NA Chairman Hue is set to attend the first CLV Parliamentary Summit on strengthening the role of parliaments in promoting comprehensive ties between Cambodia, Laos, and Vietnam.

The CLV parliamentary summit has been upgraded from the conference of committees of the three legislatures. The establishment of the mechanism aims to strengthen and consolidate friendship, close solidarity, and comprehensive cooperation, with a specific focus on socio-economic development, defence-security ties, and people-to-people exchanges for sustainable development of the three countries and of the wider region, according to the joint statement.

It will help to step up and supervise the implementation of agreements, action programmes, and co-operation projects agreed by the Governments of the three countries, as well as multilateral agreements to which the three countries are signatories.

The establishment of the CLV Parliamentary Summit mechanism is viewed as a step in realising the results achieved at the high-level meeting of the heads of the three nations held in September, 2021.

The first CLV Parliamentary Summit held in Laos represents an important milestone in the history of collaboration between the three nations' legislatures, marking an upgrading in their co-operation to the highest level as a means of contributing to consolidating and strengthening the traditional relationship, special solidarity, and mutual assistance between the three Parties, States, and people of the three countries.

This also affirms the three legislative bodies' determination to further deepen their linkages and parliamentary partnership towards bringing about practical benefits to the people of each country.
