Top leader calls for firmly strengthening public trust as pillar of national defence

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and President, as well as Secretary of the Central Military Commission To Lam presented the title “Hero of the People’s Armed Forces” to Military Region 1 under the Ministry of National Defence at a ceremony in held Thai Nguyen province, northern Vietnam on April 12.

On behalf of Party and State leaders, the Vietnamese top leader presented the title and praised the force’s particularly outstanding achievements and feats over more than 80 years. He noted that Military Region 1 covers a vast border area with complex terrain, diverse ethnic communities and uneven development, where hostile forces have repeatedly exploited issues related to ethnicity, religion, democracy and human rights to divide national unity and cause instability at the grassroots level.

This requires the armed forces of the military region to stay vigilant, steadfast and proactive, and not become complacent or negligent. In the coming period, he requested Military Region 1 to focus on five key tasks, including thoroughly grasping the Party’s guidelines and views on military and defence in the new situation, maintaining a firm hold of the area, improving early forecasting and accurate assessment, and providing timely advice to avoid being caught off guard in any circumstances.

The military region should continue to build increasingly strong defensive zones, closely link defence with security, foreign affairs and socio-economic development, safeguard sovereignty and borders, maintain stability, and firmly strengthen public trust from early on, from afar and at the grassroots level.

He emphasised building a comprehensively strong armed force, with political strength as the foremost requirement. Each officer and soldier must be absolutely loyal to the Party, the Fatherland and the people, and have strong political resolve, high combat determination, strict discipline and a strong sense of responsibility.

The force should continue to be streamlined, lean, strong, revolutionary, regular, elite and modern; master weapons and equipment; and improve training quality, command capacity, coordination and combat readiness in all terrains and weather conditions, especially in border, remote and ethnic minority areas.

He also asked for boosting production, practising thrift, and ensuring effective management, exploitation and use of weapons and equipment; proactively studying and applying science and technology, digital transformation and technical innovation; and improving capacity in new combat conditions, civil defence, search and rescue, and disaster and epidemic response.

The top leader underlinedthe need to build a clean and strong Party organisation within the military region in politics, ideology, organisation, ethics and personnel; strictly implement Party resolutions and conclusions on Party building and rectification; prevent degradation and “self-evolution” and “self-transformation”; and build a contingent of officials with qualities, competence and credibility, who dare to think, dare to act and dare to take responsibility, while maintaining strict discipline and sustaining the people’s trust in the army, the Party and the regime.
