Top leader arrives in Paris for Francophonie Summit, official visit to France
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and his delegation landed at at Orly Airport in Paris on October 3 evening (local time), for their participation in the 19th Francophonie Summit and an official visit to France from October 3-7 at the invitation of French President Emmanuel Macron.
The top Vietnamese leader’s participation in the summit is to continue affirming Vietnam’s role as a key member of the Francophonie community in Asia-Pacific, as well as the country’s active and responsible engagement in the activities of the Francophonie community in particular and the international community at as a whole, helping enhance and reinforce multilateralism and international cooperation and solidarity.
Through the participation, Vietnam continues to affirm its socio-economic and cultural achievements over the past time.
This also marks the first visit by a Vietnamese President to France over the past 22 years, aiming at making the bilateral strategic partnership more profound and practical; further stepping up the bilateral cooperation, especially in the areas of trade, investment, culture, education, science and technology, and cooperation among localities. It is also to intensify party-to-party foreign activities, especially with the Communist Party of France, and people-to-people diplomacy, thus pushing the French government to continue its attention, support, and facilitation for the Vietnamese community in the host nation.
During the trip, the Vietnamese Party and State leader will attend the official welcoming ceremony chaired by the French President and the General Secretary of the Francophone, attend the plenary opening session of the 19th Francophone Summit; and give a speech at the session on the challenges of Francophone citizens in the digital age.
He is scheduled to have a host of bilateral meetings with heads of state of several countries; receive and witness a handover ceremony of cooperation documents of several economic groups; attend an inauguration ceremony of a bronze plaque named after President Ho Chi Minh and an official welcoming ceremony; hold talks the President of France; visit and work with the Director General of UNESCO; meet with the President of the French Senate; and participate in many other bilateral and multilateral activities.
Earlier, Party General Secretary and State President To Lam left Dublin on October 3 late afternoon (local time), concluding his state visit to Ireland.
