Top leader appreciates Amazon’s role in digital development of Vietnam

VOV.VN - Party Secretary General and President To Lam hosted a reception in Hanoi on May 22 for David Zapolsky, Senior Vice President, Chief Global Affairs & Legal Officer at Amazon.

To Lam welcomed the Amazon executive’s visit to Vietnam, congratulated the group on its recent achievements and hailed Amazon’s investment and business activities in Vietnam in recent years, saying they had contributed positively to Vietnam’s development as well as Vietnam-US relations.

The host leader affirmed that Vietnam regards the United States as one of its most important partners and hopes bilateral cooperation will continue developing in line with the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, with economic, trade and investment cooperation remaining central to bilateral ties and science and technology cooperation serving as a new breakthrough in relations between the two countries.

He stressed that Vietnam is accelerating efforts to improve a transparent legal environment, emphasizing the importance of intellectual property protection and creating favourable conditions for investment and business activities by high-technology enterprises, in line with the country’s development-oriented vision and its transition toward a development model grounded in science and technology.

To Lam reaffirmed that Vietnam values and is ready to provide favourable conditions for US high-technology corporations to invest and operate in Vietnam on the basis of harmonized interests, contributing to the development of bilateral relations and bringing practical benefits to the people and businesses of both nations.

He encouraged Amazon to further build on its strengths and positive business results in Vietnam and continue serving as an important partner in carrying out Resolution 57 on breakthroughs in science and technology, innovation and digital transformation, making practical contributions in areas such as data infrastructure, artificial intelligence and high-quality workforce development in Vietnam.

For his part, Zapolsky congratulated To Lam on his election to the new position and expressed appreciation for the opportunity to meet the top Vietnamese leader.

Zapolsky highlighted positive results from Amazon’s operations and cooperation in Vietnam, saying he believes Vietnam has the potential to become a regional technology leader and offers broad potential for cooperation in areas where Amazon has strengths, including cloud computing, artificial intelligence and big data.

On the occasion, Zapolsky expressed appreciation for the attention and support provided by Vietnam’s Party and State leaders for Amazon’s investment and business activities in the country over the past decade, while expressing confidence in Vietnam’s development potential and its clear goals, guidelines and policies.

The Amazon executive also reaffirmed the group’s long-term investment commitment in Vietnam and its readiness to work with Vietnam in developing digital infrastructure and workforce training, contributing to the country’s socio-economic development goals.
