Top Lao legislator hails Vietnam’s proposals at AIPA-42

VOV.VN - Chairman of the Lao National Assembly (NA) Saysomphone Phomvihane has applauded contributions as well as constructive initiatives and proposals of the Vietnamese NA at the 42nd ASEAN Inter-Parliamentary Assembly (AIPA) General Assembly held virtually from August 23-25.

Lao NA Chairman Phomvihane stated that the Vietnamese legislature has made a number of positive and constructive contributions to AIPA’s activities, especially during the course of the latest AIPA General Assembly.

He duly agreed to support five proposals made by Vietnamese NA Chairman Vuong Dinh Hue, including the need to develop the legal system of each country to manage and use the digital system in a harmonious manner among ASEAN member countries. This is in addition to encouraging the bloc’s various governments to implement concrete programmes, action plans, and strategies pertaining to digital development, along with facilitating the application of science and technology in fighting the COVID-19 pandemic.

Indeed, these measures should be taken whilst promoting co-operation to maintain peace, stability, and security in the region.

Upon welcoming Brunei’s decision to hold the AIPA general assembly via videoconference, the top Laotian legislator affirmed that the AIPA-42 has achieved its goals and gained success thanks to the application of a modern digital system in the organisation.

He also appreciated this general assembly’s theme of “Forging Parliamentary Cooperation in Digital Inclusion towards ASEAN Community 2025”.

Laos also pays special attention to the use of digital systems in socio-economic development, therefore creating favourable conditions in which people in remote rural areas, the disadvantaged, and the whole society can access information and communication technology. This can be done in a comprehensive and equal manner to improve people's living standards and reduce the development gap between rural and urban areas, the Lao NA chairman added.
