Top Lao leader and spouse arrive in Hanoi for State visit to Vietnam
VOV.VN - General Secretary of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and President Thongloun Sisoulith and his spouse arrived in Hanoi on the morning of January 26, beginning a State visit to Vietnam from January 26 to 27 at the invitation of Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse.
Welcoming the delegation at Noi Bai International Airport were Politburo members Do Van Chien, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly, and Le Hoai Trung, Minister of Foreign Affairs; Party Central Committee Secretary Vice President of Vietnam Vo Thi Anh Xuan; Party Central Committee members Le Khanh Hai, Chairman of the Presidential Office, and Vu Dai Thang, Chairman of the Hanoi People’s Committee; and Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam.
Vietnamese Ambassador to Laos Nguyen Minh Tam stressed that the decision by Lao Party General Secretary and President Thongloun Sisoulith to choose Vietnam as his first official overseas destination following the successful national congresses of the Lao People’s Revolutionary Party and the Communist Party of Vietnam carries profound political and diplomatic significance.
The move, he said, underscores the exceptionally high level of political trust between the two Parties and States, as well as between the senior leaders of both sides. It also reaffirms that the relationship of great friendship, special solidarity, comprehensive cooperation and strategic cohesion between Vietnam and Laos continues to be identified as a top strategic priority in the foreign policy orientations of both countries.
Lao Ambassador to Vietnam Khamphau Ernthavanh expressed confidence that the high-level visit by the top Lao leader would help further strengthen bilateral cooperation, particularly in promoting the new substance of “strategic cohesion,” and create fresh impetus for the two sides to continue close coordination in implementing high-level agreements and pursuing the development goals set by each Party and country for the new development period.
