Thailand asked to provide information on developments regarding Bangkok hotel incident

VOV.VN - The Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MoFA) has regularly updated information on the incident involving six people, including four Vietnamese nationals, being killed in a hotel in Bangkok, Thailand, on the evening of July 16, as well as the next steps the Ministry will take in citizen protection.

Pham Thu Hang, spokesperson for the Vietnam Ministry of Foreign Affairs, made the statement in reply to reporters' questions asking for more information about the case at the ministry's routine press briefing held on July 18 in Hanoi.

Immediately after receiving information about the incident, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh issued an official dispatch to the MoFA asking it to closely co-ordinate efforts with the Thai side with the investigation and in citizen protection efforts.

The Foreign Ministry was asked to protect the legal and legitimate rights and interests of the Vietnamese citizens involved, handle foreign relation matters with Thailand, and provide updates on the case for both the media and members of the public.

The PM also urged the Ministry of Public Security to co-ordinate efforts with relevant sides in investigation work as requested by Thailand, whilst also giving information about the victims’ relatives to the MoFA for the purpose of citizen protection.

Implementing the PM’s direction, the MoFA provided information about the case to the Ministry of Public Security's relevant agencies to deploy professional measures.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand has been closely working alongside Thai authorities to update the situation, support the investigation, and to request the Royal Thai Police and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Thailand to provide information regarding the developments of the case and create conditions for the Vietnamese Embassy to take suitable citizen protection measures.

The Vietnamese Embassy in Thailand also maintains constant contact with competent Thai agencies to promptly guide the victims' families through relevant procedures when permitted, the spokesperson said.

“Once again, we would like to extend our profound condolences to the bereaved families and hope that they will soon overcome this loss," Hang added.
