VOV.VN - The Indonesian Navy’s sail training ship KRI Bima Suci, the largest naval training sailing vessel in Southeast Asia, arrived at Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc Port in Ho Chi Minh City on May 10 for a four-day courtesy visit to the southern city.
The vessel is led by Lieutenant Colonel Sugeng Hariyanto and accompanied by 345 officers, sailors and cadets.
Those attending the welcoming ceremony included Colonel Le Dinh Nghi, deputy chief of staff of Naval Region 2 under the Vietnam People’s Navy; representatives of the Ho Chi Minh City People’s Committee; the Coast Guard Region 3 Command; the Foreign Relations Department under the Ministry of National Defence; and Indonesian Ambassador to Vietnam Adam Mulawarman Tugio.
Shortly after the ceremony, crew members and the ship’s band staged a marching and musical performance featuring drums and brass instruments at Sai Gon-Hiep Phuoc Port.
During the visit, the commanding officers and crew of KRI Bima Suci are scheduled to lay wreaths at the Ho Chi Minh Monument, pay courtesy calls on Ho Chi Minh City leaders, visit Military Region 7 Command, and take part in public outreach and friendship exchange activities with officers and soldiers of Naval Region 2 as well as local residents.
The visit is expected to help strengthen the Vietnam-Indonesia Strategic Partnership and deepen cooperation between the two navies in exchanges of maritime experience, search and rescue operations, and peacekeeping activities.
The friendship visit by the Indonesian naval training ship is also expected to promote cultural exchanges, mutual understanding and friendship between the people of the two countries.
KRI Bima Suci entered service in 2017 and is equipped with advanced maritime technology and digital data transmission capabilities. It previously visited Hai Phong port in 2024.
