Second Engineering Unit for UN peacekeeping mission makes debut
VOV.VN - Vietnam’s Engineering Unit Rotation No. 2 participating in the ongoing UN peacekeeping mission in Abyei made its debut on December 27 at an announcement ceremony.
Addressing the event, Hoang Kim Phung, director of the Vietnam Department of Peacekeeping Operations, revealed Vietnam planned to send a total of 203 officers, including 22 female ones to the UN Interim Security Force for Abyei (UNISFA).
After the ceremony, they will be sent off for training at the Vietnam Peacekeeping Department.
The Engineering Unit Rotation No. 2 will contribute to the mission by providing humanitarian assistance and supporting the UN delegations in keeping and re-establishing peace in the area.
They will also work to ensure transport links are maintained, perform essential road maintenance, help reconstruct the UN base, and provide support for the local community by building community houses, schools, and other public facilities.
The Vietnamese Engineering Unit Rotation 1, made up of 184 people, were sent to the UNISFA in May and June.
Taking into account the latest deployment, the Vietnamese military has sent a total of 76 officers on individual duties, as well as 436 soldiers in groups on UN peacekeeping missions.
