Russian parliamentarians upbeat about growing Vietnam-Russia ties
VOV.VN - Vietnamese Ambassador to Russia Ngo Duc Manh had a working session on February 21 with the Russia-Vietnam Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group at the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation.
At the working session, Leonid Kalashnikov, a member of the State Duma, showed his elation at the constant development of the friendship and solidarity between the two nations, noting that Vietnam is the only Southeast Asian nation Russian President Vladimir Putin has visited five times.
Since 1991, 80 cooperation documents were signed, including the treaty on fundamental principles for the bilateral friendship. The Vietnam National Assembly is one of Russia’s most trustworthy partners at regional and international forums, especially the Asia-Pacific Parliamentary Forum, he added.
Echoing Leonid Kalashnikov’s views, Gennady Bezdetko from the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs also extolled the comprehensive strategic partnership between the two countries.
Vietnam and Russia will mark the 70th anniversary of bilateral diplomatic ties in 2020 and 25 years since the signing of the friendship principles treaty in June this year.
The bilateral relationship has grown steadily across a variety of fields, from politics, economics, and investment to national defence and education, he said.
Ambassador Manh, in turn, highlighted great potential for broader cooperation and urged them to work harder to fully tap the potential.
He also asked the friendship parliamentarians’ group and the Vietnamese Embassy in Russia to seek a coordination mechanism in effectively carrying out collaboration contents.
The diplomat said he hopes that the group and its members will enhance their role in supervising the implementation of the signed agreements and offering the best possible conditions for Vietnamese people’s integration into the host nation.
