Russian media highlights role of Vietnamese NA in promoting international integration

VOV.VN - Russian e-newspaper Rusvesna, also known as Russia Spring, published an article on May 26 which looked into the role played by the Vietnamese National Assembly (NA) in promoting greater international economic integration and the country’s comprehensive strategic partnership with Russia.

The piece also underlined the recent Vietnamese elections of deputies to the 15th NA and People's Councils at all levels for the 2021 to 2026 tenure which were held on May 23, thereby affirming that the elections can be considered  a success.

Over the past five years, the nation has signed three agreements relating to the establishment of multilateral free trade areas with partners. This includes the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP), the EU–Vietnam Free Trade Agreement (EVFTA), and the Regional Comprehensive Partnership Agreement (RCEP).

Furthermore, bilateral free trade agreements between the country and the UK (UKVFTA), along with between ASEAN and Hong Kong (AHKFTA), were also signed during this period.

Each of these agreements will serve to have positive impacts on Vietnamese economic integration, thereby bringing a range of benefits to the country due to the majority of local industries being geared towards exports, the article stressed.

The 15th NA, alongside the Party and Government of Vietnam, will continue to perform tasks set by the 13th NA, especially in terms of meeting the primary goal of turning the country into a developed economy by the middle of the century, the article said.

With regard to ties with Russia, the article noted meetings held between representatives of both Russian and Vietnamese legislative bodies at various levels which are held annually. Most notably, former Vietnamese NA Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan and Chairman of the State Duma of Russia Vyacheslav Volodin signed an agreement in late 2018 in Hanoi regarding the establishment of a high-level inter-parliamentary commission.

The Vietnamese NA has also made many significant contributions to stepping up co-operation with Eastern European country, it said while showing a belief that co-ordination between the two legislatures will be further strengthened moving forward. In addition, direct dialogues through the high-level inter-parliamentary commission are set to be resumed once the novel coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic has been fully brought under control.
