Russian expert appreciative of Vietnamese stance on East Sea issue

VOV.VN - In a commentary programme on the South China Sea, known locally as the East Sea, recently held by Russia's Avrova news channel in Moscow, Russian international political expert Grigory Trofimchuk, chairman of the Council of Experts of the Eurasian Research Fund, highlighted Vietnam’s view on the issue.

In his role as an expert, Trofimchuk emphasised the country’s steadfast stance and peaceful settlement of disputes in the East Sea through negotiations as a means of meeting the goals of ensuring stability and security in Southeast Asia.

He assessed that countries must work to resolve disputes in the East Sea through dialogue in order to avoid escalating tensions.

The Russian expert affirmed that the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) defines the legal status of the sea around the world, together with the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC). Moving forward, the signing of the Code of Conduct in the East Sea (COC) will also prove to be an important legal document in the process of peaceful negotiations to settle existing disputes.

The programme was broadcast live on FM radio and Avrora's Youtube channel, attracting a large audience in the process.
