Russia looks to expand cooperation into new areas with Vietnam
VOV.VN - Secretary of the Russian Security Council Sergey Shoigu has affirmed that his nation’s wish to to further develop established areas of cooperation while expanding into new fields with Vietnam.
Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh received Russian Security Council Secretary Sergey Shoigu and a high-level delegation of the Russian Security Council at the Government Office on the evening of December 9, during their working visit to Viet Nam from December 8 to 10.
Welcoming Sergey Shoigu and the delegation, the Vietnamese Government leader noted the positive momentum in bilateral relations, adding that the visit contributes to consolidating the traditional friendship and Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between Vietnam and Russia.
He reaffirmed that Vietnam always remembers the effective assistance and support from the Soviet people, including Russia, during the country’s most challenging periods as well as throughout national development and construction.
Both countries have shared many historical ups and downs and have stood shoulder to shoulder over decades, Chinh said, while underscoring the need for continued joint efforts in the new period to preserve and further develop the relationship nurtured by successive generations of leaders and people of both sides, Chinh told his guest.
For his part, Sergey Shoigu reiterated Russia’s desire to further advance areas of cooperation with solid foundations while expanding into new fields in line with conditions and needs of the two countries, serving each nation’s development goals and further strengthening bilateral ties.
Shoigu also said Russia will work closely with Vietnamese ministries and agencies to effectively implement agreements reached during recent high-level visits and exchanges, and thanked the Vietnamese Government for its sustained attention and timely coordination with the Russian Government to promote bilateral relations.
The two leaders reviewed key outcomes of cooperation in recent years and noted achievements across economic and trade relations, investment, agriculture, education and training, energy and oil and gas, as well as people-to-people, cultural, sports and tourism exchanges. They affirmed that both sides still have ample room to deepen cooperation and expressed readiness to further strengthen the Vietnam-Russia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership in the current context.
PM Chinh thanked the Russian Federation in general and Sergey Shoigu in particular, and requested continued favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living and working stably in Russia. He also proposed that the two sides further study mechanisms to simplify travel procedures for their citizens in order to ramp up substantive bilateral cooperation.
On this occasion, through the Russian Security Council secretary, PM Chinh conveyed his greetings to Russian President V.V. Putin, Prime Minister M.V. Mishustin, and other Russian senior leaders.
