Quang Tri hosts Fifth Vietnam-Laos People Friendship Festival

VOV.VN - The fifth version of the Vietnam-Laos People Friendship Festival opened on September 28 in the central province of Quang Tri, which borders Laos’ Savannakhet and Salavan provinces.

As part of his opening remarks at the event, Tran Van Tuy, president of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Association, said that the festival provides an opportunity for both nations to look back at their ties of traditional solidarity and glorious struggles for national liberation.

This is especially true as Qung Tri and Laos' Savannakhet province represent two historical locations on the legendary Truong Son Trail, which was one of the important factors behind the victory of the two countries against former colonial powers.

Through the festival’s activities, delegates will exchange their experience and outline measures to step up friendship and co-operation activities between the two peoples, he said.

Tran Thanh Man, Politburo member and permanent vice chairman of the National Assembly, who is also president of the Vietnam-Laos Friendship Parliamentarians’ Group, affirmed that the solidarity, co-operation, and mutual assistance between Vietnam and Laos is a vital part of relations between the two countries.

He expressed his hope that both nations’ friendship organizations will continue intensifying practical activities aimed at deepening mutual understanding, especially young generations.

This can be done to maintain and further develop the great friendship, special solidarity, and all-around co-operation between Vietnam and Laos, thereby contributing to future growth, as well as the region’s peace and stability.

Lao Minister of Technology and Communications Boviengkham Vongdala, member of the Central Committee of the Lao People's Revolutionary Party and president of the Laos-Vietnam Friendship Association, said that the association will do its utmost, together with the Vietnamese Party, State, and people, to maintain and promote bilateral ties.

The festival is underway from September 27 to September 30 in Quang Tri and Savannakhet provinces. A number of events will be held within the framework of the event, including a conference on friendship activities between Vietnam and Laos, visits to a number of revolutionary historical sites, and the delivery of gifts to disadvantaged people residing in border areas.
