President Phuc expects stronger security cooperation with Laos

VOV.VN - President Nguyen Xuan Phuc has voiced his hope that the public security ministries of both Vietnam and Laos will continue to uphold tradition and augment closer co-operation in dealing with strategic issues and combating cyber and drug crimes.

President Nguyen Xuan Phuc on January 10 hosted a reception for General Vilay Lakhamphong, Politburo member and Minister of Public Security of Laos, who is on a working visit to Vietnam.

On behalf of Vietnamese Party and State leaders, President Phuc congratulated General Lakhamphong on being elected a member of the Politburo and the first leader of the Ministry of Public Security to be conferred the title of General of the People's Public Security of Laos.

The Vietnamese State leader used the platform to applaud the General's efforts in promoting the special and precious traditional relationship between the two Parties, the two States, along with the two ministries of public security.

Regarding the great friendship, special solidarity, and comprehensive co-operation ties that exist between both sides, President Phuc highlighted defence and security co-operation as the mainstay of the relationship between the two countries.

The Vietnamese President expressed appreciation for joint ties and co-operation orientations between the two ministries, adding that the Vietnamese Party and State always creates conditions for the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam to co-operate regularly and effectively with their Laotian counterparts. This can be seen through mutual crime prevention and combatting efforts, in addition to human resource training.

President Phuc suggested that both nations’ police forces launch a broad array of exchange activities, whilst simultaneously stepping up co-ordination this year, with 2022 marking the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries.

In response, General Lakhamphong expressed his sincere thanks to the Party and State and the Ministry of Public Security of Vietnam for their valuable support and readiness to stand shoulder to shoulder to help Laos, especially during current difficult times.

Moving forward, the two ministries will focus on promoting crime prevention and combat, with a specific focus on combating drug crimes, enhancing co-ordination to ensure security and order in border areas, and maintaining social order and safety to promote investment projects in Laos, including Vietnamese-invested projects.

The two sides therefore agreed to strengthen the education of young generations with regard to the tradition of the special friendship between the two countries.
