President hosts farewell meetings with Indonesian and Singaporean ambassadors
VOV.VN - Vietnamese President Luong Cuong received the Indonesian and Singaporean ambassadors at the Presidential Palace in Hanoi on the afternoon of October 27, as they came to bid farewell upon completing their diplomatic missions in Vietnam.

Receiving Indonesian Ambassador Denny Abdi, the Vietnamese State leader congratulated him on successfully completing his tenure in Vietnam and for his active contributions to advancing bilateral relations.
He emphasized that Indonesia holds a key position in Vietnam’s foreign policy, built on the solid foundation laid by President Ho Chi Minh and President Sukarno, and nurtured by generations of leaders and peoples of both countries.
Over the past 70 years, the friendship and cooperation between the two nations have expanded comprehensively across politics, economy, trade, investment, tourism, defence, and security.
The State President also congratulated Ambassador Abdi on his appointment as Secretary-General of the Indonesian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and expressed hope that he would continue to promote bilateral relations in any capacity, thereby contributing to peace, stability, and development regionally and globally.
Ambassador Denny Abdi noted that when he began his mission in Vietnam in early 2021, the country faced severe challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic. Yet these difficulties strengthened his appreciation of the sound relations and friendship from the Vietnamese State and people. Given the complex developments in the global and regional landscape, he affirmed that Vietnam and Indonesia, as active ASEAN members, would play a crucial role in promoting ASEAN unity and development.
Agreeing with the Ambassador, the State President highlighted that deepening bilateral ties not only benefits both peoples but also contributes to building a united, strong, and sustainable ASEAN, thus promoting peace, stability, and development in the region and worldwide.
He stressed the need to continue consolidating political trust, enhancing exchanges at all levels, carrying out high-level agreements effectively, and promptly developing the Action Program to implement the Vietnam-Indonesia Comprehensive Strategic Partnership for 2025-2030.
The two countries are set to achieve a bilateral trade target of US$18 billion before 2028, ramp up defence and security cooperation, and encourage investment in priority sectors.
The State President emphasized that Vietnam and Indonesia should coordinate and support each other at regional and international forums, especially ASEAN, the UN, and APEC, based on international law, for the benefit of their peoples, regional peace, and development.
They will continue enhancing cooperation, reinforcing ASEAN’s centrality, supporting the bloc’s unified stance on the East Sea, and promoting effective COC negotiations.
President Luong Cuong wished Ambassador Denny Abdi success in his new role and continued contributions to Indonesian diplomacy and the development of Vietnam-Indonesia ties.

Turning to Singapore, the State President congratulated Ambassador Jaya Ratnam on successfully completing his mission in Vietnam and recognized his important contributions to advancing bilateral relations. He noted the strengthened trust and close political ties between the two countries, highlighting regular high-level and inter-level exchanges across party, state, government, and parliamentary channels.
Bilateral trade remains on a stable upward trajectory, reaching nearly US$9 billion, while cooperation has seen breakthroughs under the Green Economy-Digital Economy Partnership framework. Singapore remains Vietnam’s top investor, notably through the Vietnam-Singapore Industrial Parks (VSIP), a symbol of successful economic cooperation.
Stressing Vietnam’s commitment to strengthening relations with Singapore as a leading economic partner, the State President called for continued high-level exchanges and for developing and implementing the Action Program for the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2025-2030. He encouraged close cooperation in defence and security, as well as other areas such as science and technology, digital and green transition, culture, education, and human resource development, while maintaining momentum in trade and investment relations.
Amid complex global developments, the State leader urged both countries to enhance cooperation, strengthen unity, and support each other at regional and international forums.
He underscored the importance of jointly supporting ASEAN’s common stance on the East Sea based on international law and the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea, ensuring a peaceful, stable, and cooperative ASEAN region.
Ambassador Jaya Ratnam expressed appreciation for witnessing Vietnam’s remarkable development over recent years. He affirmed Singapore’s admiration for the resilience and unity of the Vietnamese people. He congratulated Vietnam on becoming one of the world’s top 30 economies with notable achievements in socio-economic development and rising Human Development Index (HDI) scores, and praised Vietnam’s successful hosting of the signing ceremony for the UN Convention against Cybercrime (Hanoi Convention), highlighting Vietnam’s growing international role and credibility.
Agreeing with the President’s assessment of bilateral relations, the Ambassador expressed confidence that the Action Program for the Vietnam-Singapore Comprehensive Strategic Partnership 2025-2030 would usher in a new phase of deeper and more effective cooperation.
He emphasized that the strong political trust between the leaders of the two countries provides a foundation for closer bilateral ties and strengthens ASEAN unity and common prosperity.
