PM Phuc urges Vietnam, Chile to augment broader cooperation in new fields
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc has suggested Vietnam and Chile should focus on promoting sound traditional relationship and cooperation in new areas, such as science technology and defence.
The Vietnamese government welcomes outcomes of talks between President Tran Dai Quang and President Bachelet, Phuc said, adding that the Chilean leaders’ visit will make practical contributions to the development of the Vietnam-Chile friendship and all-round partnership.
For her part, President Bachelet showed her nation's support for Vietnam,saying her nation has recognized Vietnam’s market economy mechanism as well as the country’s efforts to expand relations with nations across the globe.
The Chilean President briefed her host on results of her talks with President Tran Dai Quang. She said that both sides shared many measures to boost bilateral trade and connect business communities in the time ahead.
Chile hopes to learn from Vietnam in rice cultivation, she stated, expressing wish to cooperate with Vietnam in weather forecasting as Chile owns modern research centres in this field.
On the occasion, President Bachelet extended her sympathy to Vietnam over great losses due to the recent storm and floods and affirmed that the two sides should work closer together in climate change response.
She greatly valued Vietnam for assisting Chile in increasing cooperation with ASEAN and noted that political relations between the two countries have progressed and existing cooperation mechanisms have proven effective.
She suggested that both sides remove obstacles to increase the trade of agriculture products as well as step up cooperation in defence, security, peacekeeping, science and technology, while supporting each other at multilateral forums.
Echoing President Bachelet’s view, PM Phuc proposed that the two sides maintain and intensify exchanges of high-level delegations and pledged to direct ministries and sectors to effectively carry out agreements reached between the two countries to boost trade and investment partnership, especially in processing, seafood, and climate change response.
PM Phuc asked the Chilean leader to create the best possible conditions for Vietnamese farm produce, especially mango, lychee and longan, to access the Chilean market.
He assured Vietnam's willingness to transfer rice cultivation techniques to Chile while asking Vietnam and Chile to further collaboration in new areas such as science-technology and defence.
