PM Phuc attends 14th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc is due to attend the 14th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC 14) which is set to transpire on November 26.

The cabinet leader is poised to give a key note speech at the event, the Ministry of Public Security said at a November 25 press conference regarding AMMTC 14 and related meetings.

The meeting hosted by the Ministry of Public Security will draw the attendance of from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, and representatives from ASEAN embassies in Vietnam.

Regional and global circumstances that could affect developments in regional transnational crime will be major issues under discussion.

Delegates will discuss and seek approaches to accelerate the realization of targets worked out in the ASEAN Plan of Action in Combating Transnational Crime for the 2016-2025 period, and adopt documents on initiatives and ideas from ASEAN members.

Following the opening ceremony, General To Lam, Minister of Public Security, will chair a plenary session, with the participation of ASEAN ministers overseeing transnational crime prevention, the Secretary-General of ASEAN, and ASEAN Directors-General of Immigration Departments and Heads of Consular Affairs Divisions of the Ministries of Foreign Affairs (DGICM).

At the session, Vietnam will take over the AMMTC Chairmanship from Thailand - the host country of AMMTC 13 in November 2019. ASEAN Ministers are set to approve a Joint Statement for AMMTC 14.

AMMTC 14 will be seen as a contribution to Vietnam’s success as ASEAN Chair in 2020, thereby raising the nation’s international profile as well as showing its
strong political commitment and proactiveness in international cooperation against transnational crime.

As host of the 14th ASEAN Ministerial Meeting on Transnational Crime (AMMTC-14), the Ministry of Public Security has pledged to work together with ASEAN law enforcement agencies to deal with burning issues as well as regional and global challenges that threaten peace, security and stability in the region.
