PM Pham Minh Chinh honoured as eminent ASEAN leader for 2025

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh has been named distinguished ASEAN leader for 2025 by the KSI Strategic Institute for Asia Pacific.

The award was presented on May 25 in Kuala Lumpur, where the Prime Minister is on an official visit to Malaysia and attending the 46th ASEAN Summit.

The recognition was announced at the ASEAN Leadership and Partnership Forum (ALPF), a key annual event organized by Malaysia-based policy think tank KSI in collaboration with partners such as the ASEAN Economic Club.

This year’s forum gathered representatives from ASEAN member states, the ASEAN Secretariat, and the regional business community. The event served not only as a platform to assess global challenges but also to explore pathways for building a more resilient, prosperous, and sustainable ASEAN.

Participants highlighted ASEAN’s position as one of the world’s most dynamic economic regions, with deepening internal integration and expanding ties with key partners, including the United States, China, Japan, Russia, India, and the Gulf Cooperation Council.

Over the past three decades, Vietnam has actively contributed to ASEAN’s development and integration. Beyond supporting the bloc’s growth, the country has also effectively promoted regional cooperation to spur its own sustainable development.

Addressing the forum, PM Chinh emphasized the pivotal role of businesses in helping ASEAN become a strong, fast-growing, and sustainable region, one that ensures prosperity and well-being for its people, leaving no one behind.

He called on businesses to strengthen links with each other, thereby enhancing connectivity among ASEAN economies and between ASEAN and the wider world.

This includes harmonizing legal and policy frameworks, reconnecting disrupted supply and production chains, diversifying markets and products, strengthening public–private partnerships, and promoting sustainable, tech-driven agriculture as a key economic pillar.

He stressed that governments must play an enabling role by shaping and implementing effective policies that maintain stability and boost growth. He underscored the importance of digital transformation, green growth, the circular economy, science and technology, and innovation.

In the face of mounting challenges, he called for composure, resilience, and timely, flexible, and creative policymaking, while pursuing progress step by step, avoiding perfectionism or haste, and sharing risks while harmonizing interests. He also described these difficulties as opportunities to restructure businesses, economies, markets, and supply chains both nationally and regionally.

PM Chinh reiterated Vietnam’s commitment to ensuring investors’ legitimate rights, protecting property and business freedoms, and guaranteeing equal access to resources. He affirmed Vietnam’s stance against criminalizing civil or economic relations, with economic solutions prioritized in dispute resolution.

Receiving the award from KSI, the Prime Minister expressed sincere thanks and dedicated the honor to the Vietnamese people and nation, saying he was proud to accept it on their behalf.

On behalf of the Party and State, General Secretary To Lam, President Luong Cuong, National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man, and PM Chinh extended appreciation for the solidarity, cooperation, and support shown by ASEAN member states, leaders, and businesses.
