PM Chinh leaves Hanoi for official visit to Malaysia, ASEAN Summit

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and his spouse departed Hanoi on May 24 evening for an official visit to Malaysia and attendance at the 46th ASEAN Summit and related high-level meetings in Kuala Lumpur, at the invitation of Malaysian Prime Minister Anwar Ibrahim and his spouse.

The Vietnamese Government chief is accompanied by Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Bui Thanh Son; Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Vu Hong Thanh; Minister of Industry and Trade Nguyen Hong Dien; Minister of Science and Technology Nguyen Manh Hung; and Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism Nguyen Van Hung, among others.

This marks the first official visit to Malaysia by a Vietnamese Prime Minister in 10 years and the first visit by a key Vietnamese leader since the two countries upgraded their ties to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

The visit aims to outline key directions and concrete steps to implement this newly elevated partnership, while reinforcing political trust and stepping up cooperation in various areas, including politics, diplomacy, defence, security, trade, investment, labor, culture, tourism, and people-to-people exchange. It will also help beef up cooperation in potential fields such as science and technology, digital economy, e-government, green economy, circular economy, energy transition, and innovation-led startups.

During the trip, PM Chinh and the high-level Vietnamese delegation will also attend the 46th ASEAN Summit, the first summit under Malaysia’s ASEAN Chairmanship this year, themed “Inclusivity and Sustainability”.

In addition to internal ASEAN meetings, leaders will also take part in the 2nd ASEAN-Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Summit and the ASEAN-China Summit.

The PM's participation in the summit signifies Vietnam's active, proactive, and responsible engagement, sending a clear message that Vietnam is actively and responsibly contributing with fellow member states to uphold and reinforce ASEAN's centrality, and to amplify its responsible voice for peace, stability, and development.
