PM Pham Minh Chinh holds phone talks with his new Thai counterpart

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh held a phone conversation with Thai Prime Minister Paetongtarn Shinawatra on the occasion of her inauguration as the 31st Prime Minister of Thailand.

PM Chinh respectfully conveyed the regards and best wishes of Party General Secretary and President To Lam to the King, Queen, and Royal Family of Thailand, congratulating her on being approved by the King as the new Thai PM. He expressed his belief that the Thai Government and the Thai people will continue to record greater achievements in the cause of national construction and development.

The Vietnamese Government chief also affirmed the nation’s consistent foreign policy of valuing and wishing to develop the joint relationship in an increasingly stronger, more trustworthy, and more substantive manner.

On this occasion, PM Chinh also offered his condolences to the Government and people of Thailand following the recent serious flooding which hit northern Thailand.

Thai PM Shinawatra congratulated Vietnam on its 79th National Day, thanking the Prime Minister for sending a letter and making a phone call to congratulate her on the occasion of her assuming a new position.

She emphasized that the nation is a close neighbour and an important partner of Thailand in the region, hailing Vietnamese socio-economic development achievements.

PM Shinawatra affirmed her readiness to work alongside the Vietnamese PM to beef up comprehensive and effective ties between the two countries for the greater benefit of the people of both nations for the causes of peace and stability in the region.

The two PMs assessed that the joint strategic partnership is developing strongly and effectively across multitude of fields and they agreed that the two sides should soon upgrade their relationship to that of a comprehensive strategic partnership in the time ahead.

PM Chinh highly appreciated Thailand for holding the position of the nation’s largest trade partner and second largest foreign investor in ASEAN, affirming that he will continue to offer optimal conditions for Thai enterprises to conduct business effectively in the Vietnamese market.

The Vietnamese PM told his guest that the nation backs Thailand's "Six Countries, One Destination" initiative to effectively exploit tourism potential among ASEAN member states, expressing hoped that the two sides would closely co-operating to strengthen regional transport connectivity, cultural ties, education and training, people-to-people exchange, and the role as a bridge of friendship between the two peoples.

The Thai PM therefore agreed with PM Chinh on the need to closely co-ordinate, remove difficulties, strive to swiftly bring two-way trade turnover to US$25 billion, and enhance the connection that exists between the two economies through the effective implementation of the "Three Connectivity" Strategy.

PM Shinawatra said that the two sides are two economies with close links and complement each other, while hoping that the two countries would work together to promote their advantages to become the major economic growth engine in the region.

Regarding regional and international issues of mutual concern, PM Chinh suggested that both nations continue to closely collaborate and reinforce solidarity and the centrality of ASEAN.

He also proposed the two nations support Laos in fulfilling its role as ASEAN Chair 2024; sustainably develop the Mekong sub-region; and co-ordinate to maintain ASEAN's common stance on the East Sea as a contribution to peace, stability, co-operation, and development in the region.
