At the meeting, PM Hung praised the achievements in Vietnam-U.S. cooperation across politics and diplomacy, economy and trade, security and defense, science, technology and innovation, as well as coordination on regional and international issues of shared concern.
He expressed hope that the two sides will continue close coordination to further deepen the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, bringing practical benefits to the people of both countries and contributing to peace, stability, development and prosperity in the region and the world, in line with the direction outlined by Party General Secretary and State President To Lam and US President Donald Trump.
The Government chief also hailed the role of the Office of the United States Trade Representative (USTR) and Ambassador Switzer personally.
He affirmed that the Vietnamese Government will continue close coordination with the US side to soon conclude the agreement, thereby further deepening economic, trade and investment cooperation, which he described as a key driver of bilateral relations. He stressed that Vietnam always welcomes and is ready to provide the most favorable conditions for US businesses to continue expanding successful and effective investment and business activities in Vietnam, contributing to the country’s development goals.
Vietnam does not pursue policies that create excess capacity and that Vietnamese businesses operate according to market principles, Hung continued, while noting that the two economies are complementary and do not directly compete with each other.
The host leader also stressed that Vietnamese law strictly prohibits all forms of forced labor and that Vietnam is actively implementing relevant international commitments, including conventions of the International Labour Organization (ILO) and free trade agreements (FTAs). He added that firmly combating and strictly handling intellectual property rights violations remains a priority for Vietnam in connection with efforts to renew its development model and implement Resolution No.57 on breakthroughs in science and technology development, innovation and digital transformation.
For his part, Ambassador Rick Switzer conveyed congratulations from President Donald Trump and US leaders on his election to the new position.
Switzer spoke highly of the positive developments in bilateral ties, including in economic and trade cooperation, and stressed that Vietnam is one of the US’ leading partners, with economic and trade cooperation contributing positively to the overall development of bilateral relations.
Highlighting the importance of the reciprocal trade agreement to economic and trade cooperation between the two countries, Switzer appreciated the active and goodwill cooperation shown by Vietnamese ministries, agencies and the government negotiation team during the negotiations. He affirmed that the USTR and he personally will continue close coordination with Vietnamese ministries and agencies and make every effort for the two sides to soon reach an agreement, contributing to the further development of bilateral ties in the future.
