PM holds sideline meetings with UN, Australian leaders
VOV.VN - On September 8, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc met with his Australian counterpart Malcolm Turnbull and UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon in Vientiane, Laos on the fringe of the 28th and 29th ASEAN Summits and related meetings.
He suggested Australia widen its door for Vietnamese farm produce, and accelerate the conclusion of the risk assessment procedures on Vietnam’s dragon fruit to allow the fruit to enter its market.

Both leaders noted with their joy at the flourishing bilateral ties and discussed measures to enhance the comprehensive partnership, especially in economics trade and investment.
PM Nguyen Xuan Phuc affirmed Vietnam's readiness to support foreign investors, including those from Australia, to expand their business in Vietnam.
Concerning the international and regional situation, they underlined the importance of maintaining peace, security and cooperation in the East Sea, respecting international law, and settling disputes through peaceful measures in line with the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS) and agreed to enhance coordination for the targets.
Meeting with UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon the same day, PM Phuc applauded the UN’s responses to global challenges, saying he hopes the UN will continue promoting its leading role in keeping peace, safeguarding international security, and supporting countries to implement important agreements, especially the 2030 agenda on sustainable development and the Paris Agreement on climate change.

As an active and responsible member of the international community, Vietnam commits to joining the UN’s efforts and initiatives. The country is carrying out sustainable development goals and integrating them into its socio-economic development plans, he told the UN leader.
Vietnam hopes for more aid from the UN in implementing the plans, as the better way to effectively cope with climate change and securing sustainable development, he stated.
The UN Secretary-General in turn spoke highly of Vietnam’s support and close coordination, adding that UN bodies will work together with Vietnam in fulfilling sustainable development goals and dealing with climate change as a contribution to Vietnam’s goals for socio-economic development.
