PM hails sponsors’ contributions to 37th ASEAN Summit, related summits

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc expressed his appreciation for the significant contributions of sponsors to the success of the 37th ASEAN Summit and related summits during a reception for them in Hanoi on November 15.

The Government chief praised the sponsors’ pioneering role in supporting the country’s organization of major events despite the impact of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Their participation in the 37th ASEAN Summit and related meetings has helped ease burden on the State budget and helped themselves promote their brands to international friends, PM Phuc said.

He expressed his hope that the sponsors will continue offering high-quality products and competent services and laying an important role in promoting the country's economy.

The cabinet leader used this occasion to affirm that the Government will provide all optimal conditions for businesses to grow further, especially following the recent signing of the Regional Comprehensive Economic Partnership (RCEP) Agreement.

“The Government and the Prime Minister always pay attention to creating better conditions for businesses to enjoy a favorable and fair competitive environment. All sectors and competent agencies need to swiftly deal with related administrative procedures to offer the best possible conditions for businesses to ensure their sustainable development,” he emphasized.

At a press briefing announcing the outcomes of the 37th ASEAN Summit and related summits in Hanoi the same day, PM Phuc also glowingly spoke of the great success of the meetings, with a record number of 80 documents approved and signed.

During the meetings, ASEAN leaders discussed a range of measures to recover the regional economy in a bid to fulfill the dual tasks of containing the COVID-19 pandemic and maintaining production and business activities in the region.

The 37th ASEAN Summit and related summits have paved the way for ASEAN member states to step up stronger cooperation between the regional bloc and partners, for peace and prosperity.

Concerning the impact of strategic competition between world powers on the intra-bloc solidarity, PM Phuc affirmed that ASEAN and Vietnam in particular hope for sound relations between the powers to benefit peace, security, cooperation and development in the region and the wider world.

In the spirit of cohesiveness and responsiveness, Vietnam and ASEAN members have shared view points and actions, and worked together with partners for an open, transparent and rules-based region.

This has been reflected in ASEAN documents issued in 2020, the Vietnamese Government leader added.

At the 37th ASEAN Summit, leaders agreed upon the urgent need to bolster cooperation, protect peace and stability and respect laws in the post-COVID-19 context.

They showed their determination to build the East Sea into a sea of peace, stability, friendship, cooperation, with freedom of navigation and aviation ensured, and consented that all activities at sea must be conducted in line with international law and the 1982 United Nations Convention on the Law of the Sea (UNCLOS).

The countries underlined the need to exercise self-restraint, seriously implement the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea (DOC) and soon reach an effective and efficient Code of Conduct in the Sea (COC) in accordance with international law and the 1982 UNCLOS.

The 37th ASEAN Summit and related summits are an important occasion for Vietnam and other ASEAN members to make important decisions and directives on ASEAN cooperation and relations with its partners with regard to regional and international issues which will affect the region in the coming time, as well as enhance the regional bloc’s response to face current challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic.
