PM, Government Office donate to support recovery from storms and floods
VOV.VN - In the spirit of solidarity and mutual support, on October 3 at the Government Office headquarters, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, along with Government leaders and staff of the Government Office, donated at least one day’s salary each to support people affected by recent storms and floods.

In September alone, four consecutive storms affected the country. Among them, typhoon Bualoi was of high intensity, with a prolonged duration over land; its residual effects caused heavy rains, flash floods, landslides, and widespread inundation. Water levels in many rivers exceeded alarm level 3, with some places surpassing historical flood levels.
This is one of the most severe and fierce natural disasters, having a heavy impact on socio‑economic activities and infrastructure from coastal areas to plains, midlands to mountainous regions, causing serious human, property, and infrastructure losses in the Northern and North Central regions.
Party General Secretary To Lam, the Standing Committee of the Party Central Committee, and the Prime Minister have issued many directives, visited, and encouraged localities and people in disaster‑affected areas to overcome difficulties and losses and quickly stabilise life.

The PM has issued nine urgent dispatches and continuously directed ministries, sectors, centrally-run agencies, and localities to prepare for and respond to typhoon Bualoi early and proactively, with the highest level of prevention and response; and set up inspection teams led by the Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Ministers to directly check, urge, and instruct localities in response and recovery efforts.
However, the losses caused by typhoon Bualoi and ensuing floods have been enormous. According to incomplete statistics as of 8 p.m. on October 2, there were 65 deaths and missing persons, 164 injured people, 349 collapsed houses, more than 172,000 damaged houses blown away or washed away, over 1,400 schools and 145 medical facilities damaged; more than 100,000 hectares of rice, crops, and aquatic products submerged or damaged, and many transport routes and essential infrastructure facilities suffered severe landslides and damage.

The preliminary estimate of economic losses exceeds VND15,000 billion. The profound pain and losses require vast resources and time to enable the restoration of production, business, and everyday life.
Previously, on October 2, the Prime Minister decided to allocate VND2,524 billion from the 2025 central budget reserve to 15 localities to support livelihoods, restore dykes, reservoirs, irrigation works, disaster‑prevention facilities, essential infrastructure, and arrange stable living conditions for residents in disaster‑affected areas due to the impact of storm Bualoi and other natural disasters since the beginning of 2025.
