PM Chinh meets foreign leaders at Autumn Economic Forum 2025

VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on November 26 held a host of meetings with Stephan Mergenthaler, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum; Chang Lih Kang, Malaysia’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation; and Hen Vandy, Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation on the sidelines of the Autumn Economic Forum 2025.

Meeting with Stephan Mergenthaler, Managing Director of the World Economic Forum (WEF), PM Chinh thanked him for WEF’s efforts to boost close cooperation with Vietnam and its support for the country’s socio-economic development, international integration and private-sector growth, as well as for the warm regard WEF leaders have extended to Vietnam.

Mergenthaler praised Vietnam’s efforts in organizing the Autumn Economic Forum and expressed sympathy for the losses the Vietnamese people have suffered due to recent natural disasters. He also voiced admiration for the nation’s efforts to tackle global challenges, stressing that WEF, representing 3,000 of the world’s leading companies, will further strengthen connections between Vietnam and global corporations to help attract high-quality investment.

The Vietnamese Government chief appreciated the World Economic Forum’s pioneering role and expressed hope that the two sides would continue to deepen their cooperation, with a view to enabling Vietnam to become WEF’s strategic partner in the region.

Receiving Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation Chang Lih Kang, PM Chinh welcomed the Minister and his delegation to the Autumn Economic Forum 2025. He noted that Vietnam and Malaysia have advanced a range of substantive cooperation activities in economics, science, technology and engineering, particularly in power and renewable energy.

With both countries pushing ahead with ambitious digital and green transition agendas, he said science-technology cooperation between Vietnam and Malaysia is opening up a vast and promising space for future development.

The Malaysian Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation conveyed his sympathy to the people of Vietnam affected by recent natural disasters, expressing hope that those impacted will soon return to normal life. He said Malaysia is prioritizing the advancement of science and technology to achieve new breakthroughs, and expressed confidence that the two countries will expand cooperation in areas such as microchips and semiconductors.

He added that both Vietnam and Malaysia have strong pools of scientific and technological talent, noting the potential for the two sides to exchange young talents, build a startup ecosystem, and create conditions for science and technology in both countries to make decisive, innovative strides.

PM Chinh stressed the need for both sides to explore deeper cooperation and share experience in semiconductors, high-tech industries, new materials, AI, open data, cloud computing, e-commerce and digital payments. He called for stronger links between the two countries’ businesses to advance cooperation in startups and innovation ecosystems, as well as human-resource development through expanded student and scientist exchange programs.

He urged the two ministries of science and technology to begin discussions soon and select concrete, breakthrough initiatives that deliver practical benefits for people and businesses in the two countries.

In his meeting with Cambodian Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation Hen Vandy, the Government leader expressed his pleasure at the continued strengthening of bilateral ties in recent years. He stated that that economic cooperation has grown closer and become a bright spot in the relationship, with trade posting strong growth.

He said he hopes the two countries will support each other in advancing development, particularly in science, technology and innovation, and stressed his expectation that the two economies can complement and reinforce each other’s growth.

Sharing sympathy with Vietnamese people affected by recent natural disasters, Cambodia’s Minister of Industry, Science, Technology and Innovation also congratulated Vietnam on the successful organization of the Autumn Economic Forum, which he said promotes green transition, inspires openness, and supports the country’s path toward green and digital development. He noted that digital transformation plays an important role in leading the global economy and expressed hope that the two countries will work together to contribute to the region’s development.

Minister Hen Vandy also acknowledged Vietnam’s innovation, particularly its vision of becoming a smart supercity underpinned by digital transformation, emphasizing its importance for the country’s entry into a new era of development.

He expressed hope for closer cooperation between the two countries in this field and said that participating in the forum demonstrates Cambodia’s commitment to cooperating with Vietnam on research topics and projects that yield practical results. He also wished that the friendship between the two nations would continue to grow, strengthened by Vietnam’s support for Cambodia’s development.

PM Chinh underlined the need for both countries to maintain a peaceful and friendly border, support each other, and work together to build self-reliant, resilient, and strong nations.
