PM Chinh arrives in Abu Dhab for official visit to UAE
VOV.VN - Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh, his spouse and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam arrived in the capital Abu Dhabi at 11 am on October 27 (local time), beginning an official visit to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) at the invitation of President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan.
This the first official visits to the UAE by a Vietnamese PM over the past 15 years. The visit is of utmost importance in strengthening political trust, elevating relations, creating breakthroughs in economic-trade-investment relations and new fields.
It creates momentum to open a new phase of cooperation between Vietnam and the three Gulf countries as well as with the Gulf region - one of the world's leading dynamically developing regions, taking the top spot in oil reserves, and having leading financial centers.
The region is also leading in transforming the new development model towards economic diversification and anticipating new trends in green transformation, digital transformation and innovation.
The UAE is one of the countries with the most important economic scale and role in the Middle East.
PM Chinh’s visit is expected to create fresh impetus for traditional areas of cooperation, create breakthroughs in potential fields, and, above all, establish a firm political trust to pave the way for a new phase of cooperation between Vietnam and the UAE.
This is a practical step in realising the 13th National Party Congress’s foreign policy of multilateralisation and diversification of external ties, active and proactive international integration, with a priority to the diversification of markets, partners and supply chains, contributing to reinforcing an environment of peace and cooperation, while maximising resources for national development.
In Vietnam's foreign policy, the UAE represents Vietnam's largest export market in the Middle East and Africa, with last year's two-way trade reaching US$4.7 billion. In the first seven months of this year, Vietnam's exports to the UAE surged by 51% on- year to US$3.37 billion. The two countries are negotiating a Comprehensive Economic Partnership Agreement (CEPA), with a view to finalizing the negotiations during the PM’s visit. As of June 2024, the UAE had 41 projects valued at US$71.6 million in Vietnam, and there were roughly 3,000 Vietnamese workers in the UAE.
The two countries share a common awareness of the importance of soon elevating bilateral relations to new heights, commensurate with the potential, economic scale and expectations of both sides.
During the visit, the Vietnamese Government leader is scheduled to hold talks with President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, and Vice President and Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rasheed AL Makhtoum. On this occasion, the two countries will upgrade their ties, with a lot of cooperation documents to be signed.
PM Chinh will receive ministers, and leaders of various leading economic groups and investment funds; attend a Vietnam-UAE business forum, and a car exhibition of Vietnamese electric vehicle maker Vinfast. He will also deliver a policy speech at Anwar Gargash Diplomatic Academy, and visit the Vietnamese embassy and the Vietnamese community in the Middle East nation.
