Party leader To Lam visits Busan as part of ongoing trip to RoK

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam and his spouse departed Seoul for Busan on August 13, carrying on activities during his State visit to the Republic of Korea.

Upon arrival in the port city, Party General Secretary To Lam met with former Honorary Consul General of Vietnam in the Republic of Korea, Park Soo-kwan.

At the meeting, the Party chief expressed his pleasure at meeting with Park, a close friend of the Vietnamese people, in the beautiful city of Busan during his State visit. He shared his positive impressions of Busan, noting its potential and development achievements as a testament to the determination and efforts of the city’s leadership and residents to make Busan a leading model in the region.

The Party General Secretary noted that, with the active support of the governments and peoples of both countries, as well as prominent Korean entrepreneurs including Park, Vietnam-RoK cooperation, particularly in the economic sphere, has been growing at a high pace.

The two countries remain among each other’s top partners; people-to-people exchanges and locality-to-locality cooperation are thriving. Vietnamese and Korean communities in each other’s countries have generally integrated well, contributing to the host country’s socio-economic development and serving as bridges of friendship between the two nations.

He announced that, with the aim of enhancing Vietnam’s diplomatic presence in southern RoK and meeting the growing needs of the Vietnamese community and local partners, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Vietnam has decided to establish the Consulate General of Vietnam in Busan. To ensure the Consulate General’s smooth and effective operations, the Party leader expressed his hope that Park would continue to give his attention, support, and best possible assistance in the time ahead.

For his part, former Honorary Consul General Park Soo-kwan showed his delight at meeting Party General Secretary To Lam in his new position and recalled the positive impressions from their previous meetings. He affirmed his belief that, under the Party General Secretary’s vision and leadership, Vietnam will continue to prosper in the years to come.

Park shared that Busan was honored to be chosen as the venue for the inauguration ceremony of the Consulate General of Vietnam and as the host of the celebration marking the 30th anniversary of the establishment of friendly cooperative relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan.

He expressed confidence that cooperation between the two cities will further grow, making even greater contributions to RoK-Vietnam cooperative relations in the new period.

During the visit, Party General Secretary To Lam also met with Park Heong-joon, Mayor of Busan.

On behalf of the leadership and people of Busan, Mayor Park expressed sincere appreciation to Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse, and the high-level Vietnamese delegation for choosing Busan as a stop on his first State visit to the Republic of Korea and for attending the celebration marking the 30th anniversary of cooperative ties between Busan and Ho Chi Minh City.

Mayor Park affirmed that Busan plays an important role in promoting economic cooperation with Ho Chi Minh City in particular and Vietnam in general, with significant contributions from Busan enterprises operating in Vietnam. He stressed Busan’s desire to work closely with Ho Chi Minh City to help realize its goal of becoming a global administrative hub.

Expressing his pleasure at visiting the dynamic and hospitable coastal city, To Lam thanked Busan’s leadership and residents for the warm and respectful welcome extended to his delegation, showing the great importance attached to Vietnam-RoK relations. He also congratulated the city on its remarkable achievements in becoming the RoK’s second-largest economic center and the world’s fifth-largest port city.

The Party chief underscored that, as the closest Korean locality to Vietnam, Busan has maintained strong relations with various Vietnamese provinces and cities. He noted that his visit to the East Asian nation and Busan coincided with the inauguration of the Consulate General of Vietnam in Busan and the celebration of the 30th anniversary of ties between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan.

Party General Secretary To Lam said that during his high-level talks with KoK President Yoon Suk Yeol, the two leaders reached a shared understanding on supporting and facilitating locality-to-locality cooperation. Emphasizing that this is a strategic opportunity to elevate substantive cooperation between Busan and Vietnam’s potential localities, he urged the city to expand partnerships with Vietnamese provinces and cities; encourage its business community to invest more in Vietnam, particularly in priority sectors such as science and technology, development of satellite cities, commercial centers, logistics hubs, infrastructure construction, and tourism facilities; share expertise in developing and operating smart seaports located in key coastal economic zones of Vietnam; and enhance connectivity and support for Vietnam’s film industry.
