Party leader meets outstanding Vietnamese nationals, Vietnamese community, visits Embassy in Malaysia
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary had a meeting in Kuala Lumpur on November 23 with outstanding Vietnamese nationals, intellectuals, entrepreneurs and leaders of associations from ASEAN member states within his official visit to Malaysia.
At the meeting, Vietnamese community representatives briefed the Party chief on their living conditions in their respective countries. They expressed their happiness at the remarkable development achievements of the home country in recent times, and shared their experience, ideas, and policy suggestions, with the aim of contributing to Vietnam's development in the new era.
Professor Duong Nguyen Vu from Singapore shared his opinions on the role of science, technology, and innovation in building a modern economic foundation for the country's development in the age of technology and artificial intelligence. He proposed the establishment of a science and technology advisory council, which will serve as a research and strategic advisory body for the Party and the State on science and technology, ensuring sustainable and self-reliant development in this field. The professor stressed that he, along with other Vietnamese scientists abroad, is always ready to support and participate in the homeland's development process.
Party General Secretary To Lam informed participants about the country's overall development situation, stressing that the coming period will be a phase of concentrating efforts for a critical strategic opportunity, and accelerating progress to achieve the goals set by the Party, and create a new era - the era of the nation's rise.
He affirmed that the contributions and combined efforts of the Vietnamese community abroad are of great significance in realizing the country’s development goals.
The top leader affirmed that the Party and State always care about the Vietnamese community abroad, viewing it as an inseparable part, a vital resource and the "flesh and blood" of the nation. He showed his deep respect for the devoted and responsible contributions of overseas Vietnamese to the country.
Lam also incentivized them to continue serving as a bridge in strengthening relations between Vietnam and other countries, thus bringing practical benefits to all parties and contributing to the development of each nation.
He requested the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese, relevant ministries, and Vietnamese representative offices abroad to listen to ideas and recommendations by the overseas Vietnamese community, and accompany and support them.
Meeting with representatives of the Vietnamese community in Malaysia, the Vietnamese Party chief said during his visit, the two nations consented to upgrade their relations to a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership, opening up plenty of cooperation opportunities as both countries enter a new phase of growth, enhancing the bilateral relations to benefit their people, and contributing to regional and global peace, stability, cooperation and economic connectivity.
He underlined that the Party and State place importance on overseas Vietnamese communities, including those in Malaysia. He affirmed Vietnam’s unwavering policy of caring for these communities and recognizing them as an integral part and a vital resource of the nation. Therefore, policies aimed at supporting OV have been issued.
He encouraged the expatriates in Malaysia to comply with local laws and employment contracts, uphold the positive image of Vietnamese people, integrate actively into the host’s society, and contribute to the home country’s development as well as to the bilateral relations.
Visiting the Vietnamese Embassy, the Party leader underlined the need for the embassy to pay attention to the community’s affairs, swiftly address challenges related to their residence, work, business, and education, assist in improving their legal status, and called for their integration and contributions to the country of residence.
At noon on the same day, Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse and a high-ranking delegation of Vietnam left Kuala Lumpur, concluding their three-day official visit to Malaysia, at the invitation of Prime Minister Dato’ Seri Anwar Ibrahim and his spouse.
