This is an important event, marking a new step of development in Vietnam-Cuba relations, showing solidarity and friendship between the people, Party and State of Vietnam with their Cuban counterparts.
Vietnam and Cuba have closely cooperated and offered mutual support at international organizations and multilateral forums, particularly the United Nations.
Vietnam consistently supports Cuba’s request for the lifting of the US embargo against the country and pledges to back the country’s bid for a seat in the UN Human Rights Council for 2021-2023.
Apart from the political ties, Vietnam and Cuba have also enhanced economic and trade links via programmes and projects.
Last year’s two-way trade reached US$224.3 million and both sides are striving to elevate their bilateral trade to US$500 million by 2020.
Vietnam primarily exports rice to Cuba, along with coal, chemicals, garments-textiles and computers, while importing pharmaceutical products.
Cuba has also called for Vietnamese investments in food production, oil and gas exploration and exploitation, industry, tourism, bio-technology, and other priority areas in the Mariel Special Economic Development Zone.
The Vietnamese Government is ready to offer the best possible conditions for businesses to broaden cooperation in order to make the economic and trade ties on par with bilateral political relations as well as the special time-tested friendship.
