VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam praised US multinational technology company Qualcomm's successful investment projects in Vietnam during a reception in Hanoi on June 10 for Alex Rogers, President of Global Affairs of Qualcomm Inc.

At the reception, the Party chief extended a warm welcome to Alex Rogers on his visit to Vietnam. The visit comes at a significant time, as both nations celebrate 30 years of diplomatic relations and mark the second year of the Vietnam - U.S. Comprehensive Strategic Partnership.

To Lam rejoiced at the positive and substantive developments in the Vietnam-US Comprehensive Strategic Partnership and affirmed that Vietnam highly values the development of its relationship with the US and hopes for continued deepening, effectiveness, and stability in bilateral ties across multiple fields such as economics, trade, investment, science and technology, innovation, and education and training, all for the benefit of the people and businesses of both nations.

He applauded the success of Qualcomm's investment projects in Vietnam and welcomed the group's sustained and increased investment in existing projects, while also encouraging their expansion into key sectors where Qualcomm excels and Vietnam has significant demand, including high technology, artificial intelligence (AI), semiconductors, and digital infrastructure. He noted that such efforts will significantly contribute to transforming Vietnam into a regional and global hub for AI and semiconductors.

The Party leader also urged Qualcomm to ramp up cooperation with Vietnamese businesses, accelerate technology transfer, and provide support and share experience with Vietnamese partners. This aims to enhance the scientific and technological capabilities of the local workforce and help Vietnamese enterprises join the global value chain.

At the same time, the General Secretary asked Alex Rogers and other US businesses investing and operating in Vietnam to continue supporting early progress in bilateral negotiations. This, he noted, will boost stable and sustainable economic, trade, and investment cooperation, serving the interests of both nations' people and businesses.

The General Secretary shared the vision and determination of the Party, State, and people of Vietnam to achieve national development goals of becoming a developing country with modern industry and upper-middle income by 2030, and a developed, high-income nation by 2045.

To realize these ambitious growth targets, he emphasized that Vietnam has issued numerous crucial resolutions designed to create the most favorable conditions for scientific and technological advancement, alongside attracting private sector participation. Among these are Resolution 57 which designates science and technology development, innovation, and digital transformation

In that spirit, To Lam affirmed that the Vietnamese Party and State are highly committed to creating the most favorable conditions for both domestic and foreign enterprises, particularly those from the United States, to invest and operate effectively and sustainably in Vietnam. The country always warmly welcomes Vietnamese professionals who have studied and trained abroad to return home in order to contribute to the nation's development, especially in the startup sector.

In response, Alex Rogers indicated that the primary objective of his visit was to inaugurate the Artificial Intelligence Research and Development (AI R&D) Center in Hanoi, which stands as one of Qualcomm's three research centers located outside the US.

He noted that Vietnam's AI experts are currently ranked among the top 20 globally, boasting a substantial pool of highly skilled professionals trained both domestically and internationally. He views this as a major opportunity for Vietnam to emerge as a leading AI and semiconductor hub in the region.

Qualcomm, drawing on over 20 years of experience operating in Vietnam and strong partnerships in both AI and semiconductor fields, is ready to cooperation with Vietnamese enterprises to build and develop a robust AI and semiconductor ecosystem in the country. He also affirmed Qualcomm's commitment to further investment in Vietnam, including nurturing Vietnamese talent for global AI development, thereby contributing to both Vietnam's growth and the Vietnam-US relationship.
Alex Rogers welcomed the directives from Vietnam's high-level leaders regarding the improvement of the business investment environment, as well as the active and effective support provided by ministries and agencies to US enterprises.

He hailed Vietnam's socio-economic development strategy, particularly in science, technology, innovation, and digital transformation, and acknowledged the emphasis on the private sector as a key driver of socio-economic development, in line with Resolutions No.57 and No.68 These efforts, he noted, create momentum and favorable conditions for US businesses to expand their investments in Vietnam.  Alex Rogers also expressed his confidence that under the leadership and strategic vision of General Secretary To Lam and other Vietnamese leaders, Vietnam will achieve its set development goals in the time ahead.

Alex Rogers glowingly spoke of the positive trade discussions between Vietnam and the US recently. He expressed a desire for bilateral negotiations to swiftly yield favorable results, providing businesses in both nations with confidence in a sustainable trade framework for cooperation, investment, and business endeavors.
