US tech leader Qualcomm opens AI hub in Vietnam

VOV.VN - Chipmaker Qualcomm of the United States inaugurated its new Artificial Intelligence Research & Development (AI R&D) Centre in Vietnam, at a ceremony in Hanoi on June 10, marking a major milestone in the company’s nearly two-decade-long journey to strengthen the country’s tech ecosystem.

Speaking at the ceremony, Deputy Minister of Science and Technology Le Xuan Dinh hailed Qualcomm's new AI R&D Centre in Vietnam as a significant step forward in Vietnam - US technology cooperation, especially in the emerging field of AI, which both countries view as a strategic priority.

Qualcomm's decision to establish its AI R&D hub in Vietnam reflects the company’s strong confidence in the capabilities and potential of the country's information technology workforce. It also serves as a vivid demonstration of the deepening comprehensive strategic partnership between Vietnam and the United States.

“We believe that this center will enhance Vietnam’s AI research capacity and become a training ground for engineers, experts, and international talent, contributing to the country’s long-term socio-economic development,” said the Deputy Minister.

The centre is expected to bolster Qualcomm’s ability to develop foundational AI models while reinforcing the company’s long-term commitment to R&D in Vietnam.

The AI R&D Centre will focus on driving innovation from fundamental research to platform development. It aims to nurture local talent, foster academic partnerships, and contribute directly to Qualcomm’s global product roadmap and the growth of Vietnam’s AI sector.

Qualcomm’s activities in Vietnam align with national strategies on AI, semiconductors, and digital transformation, giving priority to technology transfer, ecosystem development, and capacity building.

As Vietnam works to build a robust public-private ecosystem to accelerate digital transformation, upskill the workforce, and foster innovation, Qualcomm’s investment is expected to support these national goals. By leveraging its world-class AI expertise, the company will help create opportunities for Vietnamese researchers to co-develop practical, locally relevant solutions to both domestic and global challenges.
