Party General Secretary To Lam receives Cambodian Front delegation in Hanoi

VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam received Men Sam An, Vice President of the Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and President of the National Council of the Solidarity Front for the Development of Cambodia Motherland (SFDCM) in Hanoi on March 23, during her working visit to Vietnam at the invitation of the President

At the meeting, the Party chief spoke highly of the visit by Men Sam An and her delegation, saying it contributes to strengthening close cooperation between the two Front organisations and to consolidating the good neighbourliness, traditional friendship, comprehensive cooperation and long-term stability of relations between Vietnam and Cambodia.

He hailed the signing of a cooperation agreement between the two Front bodies for the 2026-2031 period, reaffirming that Vietnam consistently gives high priority to its relations with Cambodia, supports Cambodia’s peaceful and stable development, and facilitates the implementation of agreements while promoting closer cooperation between the two Front organisations.

On this occasion, To Lam extended New Year greetings to King Norodom Sihamoni, Queen Mother Norodom Monineath Sihanouk, CPP President Hun Sen, Prime Minister Hun Manet, National Assembly President Khuon Sudary and the Cambodian people on the upcoming Chol Chnam Thmey festival (April 14-16, 2026).

He said that following the success of the 14th National Party Congress, the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, the first session of the 16th National Assembly will finalise leadership positions, complete the state apparatus at all levels, and implement resolutions adopted at the Party Congress.

For her part, Men Sam An congratulated Vietnam on successfully holding elections for the 16th legislature and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term, with voter turnout exceeding 99%.

She expressed confidence that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam headed by To Lam, the country will continue to achieve its goals, adding that Vietnam’s achievements are also seen as Cambodia’s achievements.

She said Cambodia, under the leadership of CPP President Hun Sen and Prime Minister Hun Manet, values Vietnam as a good and sincere neighbour that has always supported Cambodia, especially the assistance of Vietnamese volunteer soldiers and people in helping the country escape the genocidal regime on January 7, 1979.

Recalling remarks by Hun Sen, she said that without Vietnam’s support and sacrifices, Cambodia would not be what it is today. She affirmed that the Cambodian Front continues to inform younger generations about the historical value of bilateral relations.

Men Sam An said the state visit to Cambodia and high-level meetings chaired by To Lam on February 6, 2026, including meetings between the Politburo of the Communist Party of Vietnam and the Standing Committee of the CPP, as well as among the leaders of the three Parties of Vietnam, Cambodia and Laos, have brought qualitative changes to cooperation, making ties closer, more trusting and more effective.

Sharing To Lam’s assessment that bilateral ties are becoming closer and cooperation is expanding, with potential to reach US$20 billion in trade, she also welcomed increased people-to-people exchanges, including the restoration of friendship monuments as symbols of solidarity between the two peoples.

She affirmed that the Cambodian Front will work closely with the VFF to promote exchanges and cooperation in culture, health care and education, particularly between border provinces. She also showed interest in learning from Vietnam’s experience in tourism development.

Both sides expressed confidence that relations between the two Parties and countries will continue to develop effectively for the benefit of their people, contributing to peace and stability in the region and the world.

They reaffirmed that Vietnam-Cambodia friendship is special and invaluable, and should be preserved, nurtured and passed on to future generations.
