Party General Secretary: Press must uphold revolutionary values in service of the nation
VOV.VN - At the centennial celebration of Vietnam’s revolutionary press, General Secretary To Lam highlighted journalism’s role as a sharp ideological tool of the Party, calling for bold reforms in mindset and methods to meet the demands of digital transformation, strengthen public trust, and safeguard the country’s ideological front.

A ceremony marking the 100th anniversary of Vietnam’s revolutionary press (June 21, 1925 – June 21, 2025) was held June 21 morning at the National Convention Center in Hanoi.
The event honored the achievements of Vietnam’s revolutionary press over the past century, while also serving as a guiding beacon for journalists as they continue to carry out their noble mission in a new era of national development.
The centenary of Vietnam’s Revolutionary Press marks a proud milestone, affirming the indispensable role and status of mainstream, official journalism in the country’s social and public life.
Under the leadership of the Party and the State, and with the trust and support of readers and the public both at home and abroad, Vietnamese journalism has remained, and will continue to remain, loyal to the Party’s cause: building a prosperous, strong, democratic, equitable, civilized and happy Vietnam.
With pride in a century-long tradition of remarkable growth and lasting contributions, today’s generation of journalists, guided by the goal of building a “revolutionary, professional, humane and modern press and media landscape”, is ever more aware of the mission and responsibility entrusted to them in this new stage of development. They are committed to staying grounded in reality, acting with integrity, accuracy and professionalism, fostering public trust, and helping to shape the future.
In fulfilling this noble social mission, Vietnam’s press community stands ready to make worthy contributions to the country’s revolutionary cause, working alongside the entire Party, people and military to realize the aspiration of building a strong and prosperous nation.

On behalf of the Party and State leadership, General Secretary To Lam solemnly conferred the Ho Chi Minh Order on the country’s journalism community in recognition of their significant contributions to the revolutionary cause of the Party and the nation.
The General Secretary affirmed that, under the guidance of journalist Nguyen Ai Quoc and alongside the strong momentum of the revolutionary movement, Vietnam’s revolutionary press has grown steadily in strength. The 100-year history of the revolutionary press stands as vivid testimony to the tremendous role of the written word in the struggle for national independence and in the building and defence of the socialist homeland.
Before the founding of the Party and the establishment of the government, journalism served as a spiritual beacon, guiding ideology, setting direction, and illuminating the future. It played a vital role in rallying the masses thereby laying the foundation for formation of the political party and the State.
The General Secretary stressed that as a sharp ideological weapon of the Party, the press has actively and responsibly conveyed the Party’s policies on digital transformation, sustainable development, environmental protection, preservation of national cultural identity, and comprehensive, extensive international integration. Notably, in recent years, the press has made remarkable contributions to the fight against corruption, wastefulness, and other negative practices.

He called on media agencies and journalists nationwide to fully grasp their exceptional political and social responsibility before the Party, the State and the people. Revolutionary journalism must serve as the voice of the Party, the State, and political and social organisations, and as a trusted forum of the people-a bridge linking the Party’s will with the people’s aspirations.
It must fulfil its duty of bringing Party and State policies and guidelines to the people, while also providing space for public engagement in journalism and reflecting the legitimate thoughts and concerns of the people. The press must uphold its ideological, political and people-oriented nature, and help mobilise public strength in building a cleaner, stronger Party and political system.
Amid the sweeping tide of digital transformation and the fierce competition in the global information space, the Party leader urged the press to adapt rapidly, take the lead in renewing its mindset, master technology, and innovate in methods of journalism and information delivery. Revolutionary journalism must strengthen its presence on digital and social platforms and safeguard the ideological front amid the rise of cross-border media platforms. This is essential for asserting a firm position in the information landscape and enhancing the value of each press agency.
He underscored that leading media agencies such as Nhan Dan (People) Newspaper, Communist Review, Vietnam News Agency, the Voice of Vietnam, Vietnam Television, and selected online portals of central agencies must focus on digital transformation, step up cooperation and integration, improve forecasting capacity, and better fulfil their information orientation role, worthy of being “lighthouses” for the national revolutionary press system.
The Party chief also accentuated the need to reform press leadership, direction and management with a view to promoting an enabling environment in which journalism can best uphold its revolutionary character and fulfil its mission of serving the nation and the people.
On this occasion, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh and National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man also presented honorary emblems to veteran journalists in recognition of their great contributions to the development of Vietnamese journalism.
