Party General Secretary laid to rest at Hanoi’s Mai Dich cemetery

VOV.VN - A burial service for Party General Secretary Nguyen Phu Trong was held on July 26 at Mai Dich cemetery in Hanoi, with the boundless sadness shown by mourners at the ceremony shared with people nationwide.

Leaders and former leaders of the Party, State, Vietnam Fatherland Front, comrades, compatriots, and family of the Vietnamese Party leader observed a minute of silence to pay their final respects to the departed Vietnamese Party chief.

Following the burial, they dropped flowers and handfuls of soil on the grave of the late Party leader.

General Secretary Trong relentlessly devoted himself to the revolutionary cause of the Vietnamese Party and nation, dedicated all of his senses and enthusiasm to the responsibilities of revolutionary work till his last breath. In doing so he made wholehearted and all-out dedications to the Party, the country, and the people of Vietnam.

The Vietnamese Party leader passed away, but his name, career, contributions, dedication, talent, and righteousness will remain bright forever in the glorious history of the Party and the nation. Gratitude for this is therefore shown by cadres, Party members, and citizens, with this sentiment shared by international friends.

Nguyen Phu Trong was born April 14, 1944, in Dong Hoi commune of Dong Anh district in Hanoi. His residence was at No. 5 Thien Quang street in Nguyen Du ward of Hai Ba Trung district in Hanoi, with the start of his career being on December 5, 1967, later becoming a Party member on December 19, 1967.

He was a member of the Party Central Committee in the seventh, eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures; a member of the Political Bureau in the eighth, ninth, 10th, 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures; Chairman of the National Assembly in the 11th and 12th tenures; General Secretary of the Party Central Committee in the 11th, 12th, and 13th tenures; President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam for the 2016 to 2021 tenure; chairman of the National Defence and Security Council; secretary of the Central Military Commission; a member of the Standing Board of the Central Public Security Party Committee; head of the Central Steering Committee on Prevention and Control of Corruption and Negative Phenomena; and deputy of the 11th, 12th, 13th, 14th, and 15th National Assembly.

The late leader’s legacy will last forever in Vietnamese history and will be inherited and further brought into play for the cause of renewal, thereby successfully carrying out the goal of building a peaceful, independent, united, democratic, prosperous, powerful, civilised, and happy country that he wished and strived for throughout his entire life.

On half of the organising board of the state funeral and the family of the Party leader, Politburo member and permanent member of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat Luong Cuong, who is also head of the board, expressed gratitude to the incumbent leaders and former leaders of the Party, State and Fatherland Front, compatriots and comrades nationwide, armed forces, scholars, intellectuals, religious dignitaries, diplomatic corps, and representatives of international organisations for paying respects for, sending wreaths and messages of condolences, attending the memorial and burial ceremonies, and seeing off Party Secretary General Nguyen Phu Trong to the eternal resting place at Mai Dich cemetery.
