Party General Secretary attends inauguration of Vietnam’s Consulate General in Busan

VOV.VN - Continuing his State visit to the Republic of Korea, Party General Secretary To Lam on August 13 attended the inauguration of Vietnam’s Consulate General in Busan and a celebration marking the 30th anniversary of cooperative and friendly relations between Ho Chi Minh City and the southern port city.

At the ceremony, Party General Secretary To Lam, his spouse and the accompanying delegation officially pressed the button to inaugurate the Consulate General, underscoring the Party and State’s deep concern for the Vietnamese community living, studying and working in southern region of the Republic of Korea.

As the country’s largest port city and a dynamic economic and cultural hub, Busan ranks 12th in the world in terms of smart city criteria and is on its way to becoming a global city and a center for innovation in southern Republic of Korea.

Currently pursuing major strategic goals to usher in a new era for the country starting from the sea, Busan is home to more than 15,000 Vietnamese, the largest foreign community in the city. The establishment of the Consulate General is expected to serve as a common home for Vietnamese nationals, a place where they can seek support, share and connect; a reliable bridge for businesses from both countries to find partners, share opportunities and grow together; and a steadfast companion in preserving and promoting Vietnamese culture, language and identity, thereby fostering ever-closer understanding and affection between the two peoples.

Speaking at the celebration of the 30th anniversary of cooperative and friendly relations between Ho Chi Minh City and Busan, the Party General Secretary reiterated that the Republic of Korea (RoK) has always been one of Vietnam’s top priorities in its foreign policy, as the country has made significant contributions to Vietnam’s socio-economic development. He emphasized that the two events taking place today are concrete steps to carry out the agreements reached by senior leaders, aiming to elevate the Comprehensive Strategic Partnership between the two countries to new heights, for the benefit of their peoples and to make important contributions to peace and stability in the region and the world.

The Party chief congratulated Busan on its achievements and its aspiration to become a global metropolis. He stressed that the opening of the Consulate General shows the importance and positive contributions of Busan to relations with Vietnamese cities and to the overall bilateral relationship.

Highlighting the potential, advantages, and close coordination between the authorities and people of Busan and Ho Chi Minh City, the Party General Secretary expressed his belief that these would help realize the future development orientations of bilateral cooperation.

He noted that both cities are leading economic hubs and centers of innovation in their respective countries, with ample conditions to continue working together for development. After 30 years of relations, both sides have gained many lessons and experience, along with new, comprehensive development orientations across economic, cultural, social, and people-to-people exchange fields, serving as a model for cooperation between localities of both nations.

On this occasion, he also expressed the hope that Busan would continue expanding ties with more localities and cities across Vietnam.

On this occasion, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Bui Thanh Sơn presented the commemorative insignia “For the Cause of Vietnam’s Diplomacy” to Park Soo-kwan, former Honorary Consul General of Vietnam in Busan.
