Party chief trusts young generation to shape bright future of Vietnam-China ties
VOV.VN - Party General Secretary To Lam has emphasized that the young generation has always been a priority for the leadership of both Parties and countries, expressing hope that they will uphold the tradition of friendship and bring vitality and a bright future to Vietnam-China relations.

On the morning of March 20, the “Gathering of Vietnamese and Chinese Alumni Across Generations” was held at the Vietnam-China Friendship Palace in Hanoi, where Party General Secretary To Lam delivered a speech.
This is a key event within the framework of the “Vietnam-China Year of People-to-People Exchanges,” marking the 75th anniversary of diplomatic ties between the two countries (January 18, 1950 – January 18, 2025). It was jointly organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the Vietnam Union of Friendship Organizations.
In his remarks, Party General Secretary To Lam highlighted the significance of the event, noting that it serves as a platform to share insights on Vietnam-China friendship and convey the role and commitment of students from both countries in shaping a new era of development for each Party, each nation, and the bond between the two peoples.
Regarding the shared revolutionary history of Vietnam and China, he expressed pride and deep appreciation for the tremendous contributions of past generations of leaders, particularly President Ho Chi Minh and Chairman Mao Zedong, who laid the foundation for the enduring Vietnam-China friendship. This relationship, described as “ both comrades and brothers,” has been carefully nurtured by successive leaders of both countries.
The Party chief stressed that throughout their revolutionary journeys, the two Parties, governments, and peoples have always extended invaluable and heartfelt support to each other. He expressed gratitude for China’s efforts in welcoming and providing the best conditions for Vietnamese officials, students, and researchers to study and train, enabling generations of Vietnamese intellectuals to grow and make remarkable contributions to Vietnam’s national development and the friendship between the two nations.
According to General Secretary To Lam, mutual trust and understanding have been the key drivers behind the comprehensive and substantive growth of Vietnam-China relations. He said that this is reflected in the top leaders’ strategic decisions, including the adoption of the “16-word guideline” in 1999, the “four-good” spirit in 2002, the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership framework in 2008, and, most recently, the agreement in 2023 to build a Vietnam-China community with a shared future guided by the “six priorities.” He also acknowledged the pivotal role of joint efforts by ministries, localities, businesses, and citizens of both countries in promoting these goals.
“We deeply value the dedication and significant contributions of General Secretary and President Xi Jinping in reinforcing the relationship between our two Parties, countries, and peoples. I also appreciate the efforts of Ambassador Xia Wei, the Chinese business community, workers, and students in Vietnam in closely coordinating with Vietnamese agencies and localities to effectively implement high-level perception and propel bilateral relations forward,” General Secretary To Lam said.
Stressing that the stable and sustainable development of Vietnam-China relations is the shared aspiration and fundamental interest of both nations, as well as in line with broader global trends, he reaffirmed Vietnam’s unwavering policy of prioritizing and committing to deepening the comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership with China. He underscored the shared goal of building a Vietnam-China community with a strategic vision, benefiting both peoples and contributing to peace and progress worldwide.
Showing great joy at the active role of young people as “cultural ambassadors” and bridges of friendship between the two countries, General Secretary To Lam reiterated that the younger generation has always received special attention and high expectations from both leaderships. He noted that their enthusiasm and commitment play a crucial role in fostering long-lasting, practical, and effective Vietnam-China ties.
Given this significance, he urged young people from both nations to deepen their understanding of the historical depth, strategic importance, and future potential of Vietnam-China relations. He encouraged them to take pride in their role and responsibility in carrying forward this legacy and elevating bilateral ties.
He also called on youth to strive for academic excellence, master science and technology, and contribute to industrialization, modernization, and new productive forces in both countries, strengthening the material foundation of bilateral relations.
On this occasion, the Party leader expressed hope that young people would continue their efforts in research and innovation, while government agencies in both countries would modernize communication strategies to educate younger generations about the Vietnam-China traditional friendship.
He also emphasized the need to expand student exchanges, strengthen cooperation in education and training, and promote meaningful, practical exchange programs to deepen mutual understanding.
