Party chief orders immediate return to work, warns against prolonged post-Tet leisure

VOV.VN - General Secretary To Lam chaired a meeting of the Party Central Committee’s Secretariat on February 24 in Hanoi to review implementation of Directive No. 55 on organizing the Lunar New Year of the Horse (Tet Binh Ngo).

According to reports presented at the meeting, in implementing Directive 55, the Politburo, the Secretariat and the Government issued early instructions on preparations for Tet Binh Ngo 2026 and maintained regular supervision.

Ministries, central agencies, Party committees and administrations at all levels carried out coordinated and comprehensive preparations to ensure that people across the country celebrated Tet in a joyful, warm, safe and economical manner.

Officials, Party members and the public expressed satisfaction and appreciation for what was described as timely and humane attention from Party and State leaders in caring for citizens during the holiday.

They also hailed the responsibility shown by Party committees, authorities, the Vietnam Fatherland Front and socio-political organizations in local Tet activities. The country’s cleaner and more orderly appearance during the holiday was seen as reinforcing public confidence in Party leadership and State management, while reinforcing national unity.

Concluding the meeting, the Party leader commended Party organizations, authorities, the Fatherland Front, armed forces and cadres, civil servants and workers for strictly carrying out Secretariat directives and ensuring that people enjoyed a safe and meaningful Tet. However, he stressed that tasks ahead remain demanding and required the entire political system to immediately get back to work.

The Party chief emphasized the need to urgently restore all activities to a normal pace and avoid any delay. Party committees and authorities at all levels must begin work in earnest from the start of the year, he said, emphasizing that there must be absolutely no prolonged post-holiday leisure or neglect of duties. He also called for ensuring that the notion that the first lunar month is a time for festivities does not persist within the political system, and for tightening administrative and public service discipline.

Heads of agencies, units and localities must set an example by matching words with action, creating a sense of urgency and responsibility from the outset of the year, and bearing direct responsibility if stagnation or delays occur in handling matters concerning citizens and businesses, he said.

For the first quarter, the Party chief called for completing the dissemination and development of action programs to implement the Resolution of the 14th National Party Congress throughout the Party.

He also requested successful organization of the election of deputies to the 16th National Assembly and People’s Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term on March 15, along with preparations for the second plenum of the 14th Party Central Committee and the first session of the 16th National Assembly.

The General Secretary further instructed that socio-economic targets be accelerated, with a focus on removing obstacles to production and business, promoting public investment and accelerating the disbursement of public investment capital, unlocking growth resources, closely monitoring the post-Tet labor and employment situation, and promptly dealing with emerging issues. He urged efforts to meet and exceed targets from the very first months and quarter of 2026.

He also called for stepping up information and communication work to maintain and promote a spirit of enthusiasm across society and reinforce public confidence, with the aim of successfully fulfilling the targets and tasks set for 2026.
